A fragmented note mentions a tea kettle imitator and nostalgia for past days. It links inflation to overindulgence and recalls a quip about critics of the younger generation. The sign suggests trying something in a drugstore but is damaged and unclear.
Signals were authorized at Marino avenue and Huntington drive to supplement existing walk signals on the west side of the interchange. Additional signals planned at Oak Knoll avenue and Huntington drive will be installed to improve pedestrian and vehicle flow.
Miss Peggy Coburn will perform as contralto soloist at a program held by San Marino Congregational Church on Wednesday evening March 27 at 8 pm. She has appeared at the Hollywood Bowl with Rogers and Hammerstein concerts for two seasons and will sing at Easter Sunrise Service there. Her solo work includes engagements with the Buffalo Philharmonic Cleveland Symphony and National Symphony in Constitution Hall Washington. Many of her songs are composed or arranged by her husband who accompanies her. Public invitation issued.
Laramee Haynes as Uncle Remus will be the top guest at the Friends of the San Marino Public Library Spring Fair set for Saturday March 30 from 9 a.m. to 3 30 p.m. in the library patio. The fourth annual event includes used books art and bric a brac to raise funds for an upgraded sound system and features many volunteers and youth groups.
The 50th Year committee invites residents or former citizens who lived in San Marino at any time up to 1930 to join a reunion. Mrs Alexander Davidson chairs the effort and welcomes names and addresses or a phone tip to Atlantic 6-2342.
Robert Grover of Apex Steel Corp announced the election of Waller Taylor II of Oxford Road to Apex’s Board of Directors. Taylor, a partner at Adams Duque Hazeline, is a director at Counselors Investment Fund and Pierose Building Maintenance. He served in the US Navy 1943 to 1946 and is active with the Los Angeles YMCA as Vice President and Director.
A third Sabin on Sunday polio vaccination drive is set at First Lutheran Church Temple City. Walther League sponsors three sessions with oral vaccine Type I on March 24 and Types II and III on May 5 and June 16 from 1 to 5 p.m. A one dollar donation is requested.
The San Marino Police Department hosted a dinner at El Gordo's in San Gabriel to honor Chief Joseph G. Miller on his March 31 retirement. Officers, Lt. Herb Richter, and Sgt. Paul Sweetman helped present a custom Chief of Police badge, luggage, golf balls, and a Memory Book chronicling Miller’s 22 years of service.

Lynn Koehler daughter of Mr and Mrs Walter A Koehler from Devonport road a San Marino High School sophomore was named Miss Navy in ceremonies at the Naval Reserve Armory in Pasadena The contest was sponsored by Armed Forces Reserve of the San Gabriel Valley and other local organizations.
Miss Corinne Griffith ex movie star and tax abolition advocate will address the San Marino Women’s Republican Club on Tuesday March 26 at the Masonic Temple 3130 Huntington Drive.
San Marino Mens Softball League announces the 1963 season with two months of play once weekly. Donald I. Meadows of San Marino High School is among 15 outstanding teachers selected to pioneer a California Teachers Association assistance program in Mexico this summer. They will aid rural secondary schools in English instruction, with no pay but food and lodging provided by local communities.
The city subdivision on Wilson Avenue created three lots and exposed a shortage of street numbers. Numbers run in opposite directions, growing in one direction and decreasing across the street. The Council approved a study to settle the issue.
The Land Board of Education will hold a regular meeting on Tuesday, March 26 at the Administration Building, 1665 West Drive. The session starts at 7:30 p.m., announced Walter Dingus, superintendent of schools.

Laur ie Kyle of Oakwood drive was named one of four princesses for the 31st Poly Royal at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. A 21 year old senior Animal Husbandry major, her senior project covers cattle and sheep marketing in Australia and New Zealand. Her photo appeared in The Tribune with a Kiwi during a Livestock Study Tour sponsored by Western Livestock Journal.
The Tribune weather summary notes 1.8 inches of rainfall last weekend, with 1.6 inches on Saturday and 0.2 inches on Sunday. Rain fell on the dichondra and snow occurred in the mountains as reported by the official Rain Gauge.
