San Marino residents oppose uninvited door to door solicitations by charities by a 97 percent majority in a city hall poll. The advisory vote shows 67 percent of postcards counted with over nine in ten voting no, supporting an ordinance to bar such solicitations while excluding religious groups.

Adam Bennion announces his candidacy for the San Marino Board of Education as the Robert Treuer term approaches expiration. Bennion is a lawyer with Mackay McGregor and Bennion and lives on St. Albans Road with his wife and seven children.
San Marino unit of the American Cancer Society announces a mail only drive in April led by unit chairwoman Mrs. Ernest Messner. Council requests no door to door solicitation and aims for about $15,000 during Cancer Month while spreading cancer awareness to each home.
Paul Barton superintendent of public works for San Marino was elected chairman of the San Gabriel Ducks Unlimited chapter. Len Dunnley of this city was selected first vice chairman.
Mrs Blanche Hinman Garland aged 88 mother of John Jewett Garland of Oak Knoll avenue died Monday at Good Samaritan Hospital Funeral services were held today at St John Episcopal Church She was widow of William May Garland a Los Angeles financier and civil leader Survivors include two grandchildren Gwendolyn Chandler Garland and William May Garland II of Oak Knoll avenue
Allan Edward Shaw a 40 year old San Marino stock broker will be arraigned in Pasadena Superior Court to answer a charge of assault against a San Marino Police officer Officer Douglas Buckhauks says Shaw struck him in the mouth after a chase for speeding and running a lane sign on February 28 Shaw was stopped and is due for arraignment on March 31 in Pasadena.
Requiem mass for Mrs. Nellie G. Paules of Canterbury road was held at St. Feli citas and Perpetua Church. She died March 17 after living in San Marino six years and in Los Angeles area 38 years. A Chicago native, she is survived by husband Paul B., son Paul E. Paules of Oakland, three sisters Mother Mary Gervase of B V M, Sister Mary Ignatius of B V M in Dubuque Iowa, Nora McShane of Shaker Heights Ohio, and one grandson Paul Michael of Oakland.
A last mighty effort to raise Red Cross contributions will be led this weekend by 124 volunteers under Mrs. Wm H Nenstiel. Canvassing will be by telephone as door to door solicitation is paused awaiting a City Council poll on house to house requests. Local leaders include Stavert Breitkreutz Bell and Thomas with area captains Clark Merritt and others.

A pair of suspended boys are reported to return tomorrow after an incident in which a gasoline fire was set on a high school teacher's lawn in retaliation for disciplinary action. Police are investigating the act as a possible retaliation case linked to school discipline.

Easter Sunrise Service sponsored by the San Marino community will be held at 6 a.m. Easter morning in Lacy Park. Rev. Robert Rankin of Pomona College will deliver the message. he is an Oberlin and Yale Divinity School alumnus and former Rockefeller Brothers Theological Fellowship executive director. If rain, services move to the Huntington School auditorium performed by the Huntington School Glee Club directed by Kenneth.
Funeral services held for Lula G Vinton of Sherwood Road who died March 16 at a local hospital. Survived by brother Paul L Vinton. Native of South Windsor Connecticut she lived in Pasadena since 1931 and belonged to First Congregational Church Pasadena and the National Society of New England Women Pasadena Chapter.
Thieves hit four San Marino locations last week. A private home on Canterbury road lost 123 dollars in two purses. St Edmunds Church on San Gabriel boulevard suffered minor cash loss and broken windows. A toy store on Huntington drive saw only dimes stolen, leaving other coins. A telephone coin box on Huntington drive also was broken into with total losses yet to be calculated.
A general municipal election to elect two San Marino City Council members will be held Tuesday April 8. Incumbents T. S. Burnett and Harry W. Hitchcock run unopposed. Polls open 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
San Marino City Council authorized resurfacing projects costing $14,000 at a recent meeting. Bids will be sought immediately. Planned work covers Euclid Avenue St Albans Road south of Huntington Drive Chaucer Road and Chester Avenue.
