A new San Marino ordinance takes effect April 10 requiring off street parking for all buildings in the C-1 zone with a minimum parking area equal to 66 percent of floor area. Exemptions include schools and churches with appeals heard by the Planning Commission.
The Pepperdine College Board of Trustees has increased to nine members with the addition of Robert P. Jones of 1775 Russellane. Jones, a CPA, has written on taxation, lectured on the subject, and taught accounting at Pepperdine and UCLA. He studied at the University of San Francisco and USC and worked with the Los Angeles Junior Chamber of Commerce and multiple accounting groups.
Southern California Edison warns parents to keep children away from electric lines as kite season brings power outages. Do not use wire or tinsel string in kite construction and never pull at a kite caught in lines. notify the Edison office immediately.
In the April 13 city election the council approves a shift from hand addressed notices and ballots costing about 150 to the Hollorath card system run by the registrar of voters at 49 50 in total. This change is expected to save roughly 100.

J Sherwood Hewitson of 1195 Lorain road cashier at New York Life Insurance Los Angeles branch celebrated forty years with the firm. He joined in 1914 at Grand Forks North Dakota and has worked in Los Angeles area since 1919. He belongs to the Toastmasters Club of San Marino, is married, and has a son John Sherman Hewitson a Perris Union High School teacher.
Police report a burglary at 1521 Virginia road the Kirk residence while the family was away last weekend. A broken patio door window was found by Sgt. Herbert Richter during a nightly check. Stolen items include a $250 ring a diamond bar pin $25 in silver dollars $10 in Canadian money and about $300 in cash.
Edward R. Roybal Los Angeles City Councilman and Democratic lieutenant governor candidate will speak at the San Arino Democratic Club meeting on March 23 in the Huntington School music room. He has lived in Los Angeles 25 years and served on the council since 1947. Refreshments arranged by Mrs. Edwin Clauser and Mrs. Frank Thompson.

More than a hundred members of Southern California camellia societies gathered at the Henry E Huntington Library and Art Gallery to present a bronze plaque honoring the Margarete Hertrich camellia seedling's first blooming in 1942. The ceremony, led by D. C. Tourie, honored William Hertrich, curator emeritus, and followed a tour through the camellia section housing over a thousand varieties led by Dr. John E. Pomfret and Huntington staff.
Services were held at the Little Stone Church of Turner Stevens and Turner in Alhambra for Thomas Jesse Carter who died at his home on March 10 He was a Brownsville Tennessee native and a San Marino resident for two years He leaves his wife Nettie J Carter a son Tom J Carter four grandchildren and a sister Mrs Cordelia Johnson of Dallas Texas The Rev Frederick W Cropp officiated and interment was in Forest Lawn Memorial Park
