Residents discuss lake in city park amid rumors of hunters nearby and a proposed Huntington drive and Chelmadito store permit. The council approved a permit for a house assembly room on Anita avenue and debates over duplex dwellings while election plans shift and telephone infrastructure expands in Wisconsin.
Engineers from Clarence P. Day Corporation and J. B. Ransom plan a shaft to probe a newly found tunnel 94 feet below ground near North Gainsborough Road in San Marino. Curiosity crowds guard the site as theories multiply about its origin and purpose, from water conveyance to a mine. A scribbled name Charles Beaty is found on the tunnel wall. Continued on Page 12.
Elmer C. Neher, the principal, prepares a comprehensive survey detailing the school's growth in enrollment, faculty, buildings, and land holdings. The report will reveal past progress, current financial status, and future plans including new buildings and land valuations for the western and eastern city sections.
Enthusiasts in the city are invited to Pasadena Chess Club gatherings at the Maryland Hotel twice weekly. Mondays and Fridays are set for play with Walter S. Baldwin as president and many San Marino residents among the members. Last Friday G. S. G. Patterson of Los Angeles, Los Angeles Club champion, played a round of simultaneous games as M. S. Kuhns presided as referee. A separate note warns motorists about an oil spot needing gasket tightening per L. G. Evans of the National Automobile Club.
W D Seay of West Drive announces candidacy to succeed himself as San Marino elementary school district trustee for a three year term. Election set for March 29 at San Marino City School Huntington Drive with polls 9 am to 8 pm. Seay, on current board, endorsed by peers and San Marino City Club, has a long record in school matters including coaching Pasadena high team and Stanford athletics staff.
The board of trustees announces opposition to a County Unit school district plan currently before the state legislature as H. P. Bill. The bill would consolidate county schools below a daily average attendance of 1590 and include San Marino under county board control.
