David L. McCluskey of Oak Grove avenue was taken to Huntington Memorial Hospital after his car crossed the Lake Avenue center line in Pasadena. It jumped the curb and struck a tree and a light standard, causing compound fractures of both legs and other injuries. He was listed in fair condition. The accident occurred between Cornell and Arden roads as McCluskey traveled southbound.
San Marino marks its 50th birthday with a daylong pageant at K. L. Carver School featuring 22 classrooms of dramatic history exhibits from Pre-Columbian to present day. Harold E. Dryden heads the celebration committee with Stanley Arndt directing a score of civic groups. The Southwest Museum supplies rare materials for early Indian displays as part of a family oriented event with music and refreshments.

Death came on Monday to C D Lowe of Wilbury road a longtime San Marino resident and postal inspector for 42 years until his 1948 retirement. He served from San Marino in investigations of depredations and robberies and handled the 100 ton gold bullion shipment after Pearl Harbor. He is survived by his wife Caroline with funeral services at The Little Church of the Flowers Forest Lawn.
James R. Young, president of Sunnyslope Water Company, was installed at the annual directors dinner on March 9, 1963 at the Huntington-Sheraton Hotel. He has long served the company and elsewhere held leadership roles in the California Cosmetics Association and California Packaging Association.
Mrs. Lena T. Jones will retire June 30 as Carver School principal. Alexander L. Scrim, former Carver teaching vice principal, will succeed her next fall. Dave Fiscus celebrates 30 years with California Water and Telephone Co.
Mrs. Hamilton J. Stevens of the San Marino Red Cross urges donors to designate the San Marino Red Cross as the recipient for yearly contributions via Aid or Paraid. She warns funds sent without this designation may go to Pasadena or Los Angeles agencies, making it hard for local commitment to be fulfilled.
James W. Moore, a lieutenant in the San Marino Police Department, was appointed by the San Marino City Council on the recommendation of City Manager Charles E. Martin to succeed Chief Joseph G. Miller as the town's new police chief.
Wendell Noble, Glendale Federal Savings and Loan community relations director and longtime KABC commentator, will discuss “Why Not Start Winning The Cold War” at the San Marino Kiwanis Club noon meeting at Marino House on Mission Street next Tuesday March 19. Noble has appeared over 900 times before Southern California service clubs and presently hosts a 15 minute weekday commentary on KABC. Lt Moore named San Marino Chief of Police to take office April 1 succeeding retiring Chief Miller.
Robert B. Owen of Lombardy road resigns as a member of the San Marino Planning Commission. His resignation, accepted by the City Council at last night’s meeting, leaves no successor announced. Owen is president of C. A. Owen Incorporated Company of Los Angeles and has served five years on the commission.
Attorney Reid R. Briggs named Los Angeles advance gifts chairman of Stanford University's $100 million PACE Program. He leads an area committee of 200 Stanford alumni directing the current stage of the three year Plan of Action for a Challenging Era campaign launched two years ago with a Ford Foundation incentive grant. Briggs resides in San Marino.
At Tuesday’s Board of Education meeting a collection of proposed new high school and elementary school textbooks was presented for consideration. The lists are available for public inspection at the District office, 1665 West Drive, with Mrs. Carolyn Fitts, the district speech correctionist, involved in the discussion.

First spring tryouts drew about 200 youngsters to vie for a team. About six boys already belonged to a team. Next Saturday March 16 the second and last day of tryouts will be held with nine and 12 year olds scheduled for 9 38 a m and 11 a m. Eleven year olds are set for 11 a m.
