Ensign Joseph C. Bryant 22 of 1385 Old Mill Road San Marino dies when a navy training plane clipped power lines near Boulder Dam while approaches to Los Alamitos NAS. After attending Cathedral High School and the University of California, he worked at Los Angeles County General Hospital before induction.
Elsie Webber will start this afternoon March 10 as religious education youth director at San Ma community Church. She will assist in worship planning and youth club activities through March with a move to graduate studies in religious education by summer at Chicago Theological. Rev Frank Vanderhoof plans to return to New York City on April first.
The San Marino City Club invites the City Council and department heads to its March dinner meeting on March 19. Mayor Tibbetts will lead an informal discussion with Council members Bent Bell Hotchkiss Miller and officials, covering Bekins Warehouse sewer water and juvenile delinquency issues. Written questions will be collected at the start.
Local voters approved a $450,000 school bond issue by 985 to 125. Funds will build a new elementary school on Huntington Drive and repair existing buildings. Tax rate will rise from $1.08 to $1.30 per $100 assessed value. Details to follow in a Tribune report next week.
George Dunsmoor of 500 Plymouth Road died early Tuesday March 12. Funeral at 11 a m Thursday at the Church of the Recessional Forest Lawn Memorial Park. Survived by widow Margaret Reeves Dunsmoor and two children George Jr and Mary Belle. He owned the Dunsmoor Oil Field Equipment Company and had lived in San Marino for many years.
San Marino Kiwanis Club hosts Charter Night at Pasadena Masonic Temple with about 250 attendees. Cecil Whitehead presides, Charles J. Griffin presents charter to Irving Read, and Benjamin Pratt delivers remarks. Local dignitaries from Kiwanis and Rotary welcome the new club into the community.

Pomona College alumni have started a 1946 scholarship drive to fund 22 full tuition scholarships and five nationwide four year awards of 2000 dollars each, while raising money for a living war memorial gym for men. Last year 2831 alumni gave 48395 dollars, with 25000 set aside to aid veterans returning to study. San Marino volunteers include Virginia L. Jones as chair and local families such as MacHarg Weirick Boileau Burton Sprotte Whipple White Karns Bruce and Herlihy.
San Marino Woman's Club will host a March 20 debate on India's world problem and freedom. Raymond G. McKelvey and Dr. J. N. Sharma present opposing views at the Huntington School auditorium, with tea honoring Red Cross women and hospitality volunteers.
San Marino Parent-Teacher representatives plan to join the citizens committee of 100 and work with the San Marino Community Council on recreation. The PTA committee met at Mrs. E R Purdum's home to review recreation history and how plans evolved.
