California American Water gets staged rate hike in San Marino
The California Public Utilities Commission approved a three step rate increase for California American Water in the San Marino district. Initial 3.88 percent rise took effect Monday followed by 2.47 percent and 1.79 percent hikes on set future dates. The utility sought larger increases to reach a 16 percent return but will proceed with smaller rises to offer a fair 14 percent equity return. A typical 1000 cubic foot bill will rise about 51 cents to 10.27, with further adjustments possible after annual financials show results and ensure authorized returns are not exceeded.
