Suspected Drunk Driver Arrested After Fatal Head-On Crash

A year old Alhambra woman, Debra Eilda Farnea, was killed when her compact car was struck head on by a vehicle crossing the center divider on Las Robles Avenue near Wilson Avenue. Frank Williams of Los Angeles, the other driver, was arrested on felony drunken driving and vehicular manslaughter charges. Williams and a passenger in his car were injured. A third car involved in the crash assisted but sustained minor injuries. Police planned to file charges by Tuesday. Report notes this is the city’s first fatal traffic accident of the year.

Solar Energy Powers McDonalds in Alhambra Franchise

Frederick Frederic, owner of an Alhambra McDonald’s, partners with Conserdyne and Photocomm to install a rooftop photovoltaic array. The third party financed system lowers utility costs by 28 percent, with energy sold to the building owner and any excess to the local utility. This first San Gabriel Valley installation marks a pioneering municipal venture in solar energy for a McDonald’s franchise.

PTAs Honor Founder's Day Service Award Winners

Eighteen San Marino school volunteers were recognized with Honorary Service Awards at the annual Founder's Day PTA event. San Marino Chamber Install New Officers at Annual Dinner

The San Marino Chamber of Commerce installed its 1985 officers at the annual dinner held at the University Club in Pasadena. District Considers New Kindergarten Program

The San Marino Unified School District weighs a two year kindergarten plan for children needing extra readiness skills. A letter from assistant superintendent Kenneth Ogden and principals William Langton and Dr Carel Lambert explains a second year at Carver or Valentine with half day sessions and a possible full day option in year two. Roof Fire Put Out On Cumberland Road

The San Marino Fire Department extinguished a roof fire at a residence in the 2400 block of Cumberland Road last Saturday. Fire caused by hot embers from an interior fireplace damaged about 50 square feet of roof. No interior damage. estimated roof loss $1,500. South Pasadena units assisted.

Smith Named To Advisory Post Former US Attorney General

Former United States Attorney General William French Smith, a San Marino resident, was named to Reagan's Foreign Advisory Board. The 21 member panel, formed four years ago to strengthen US intelligence security, was announced by the White House.
