Building permits rise in San Gabriel foothill area in February

San Marino reports a February permit total of 132747 dollars with 15 new homes started according to building inspector George Cronshey. San Gabriel leads foothill communities with 212246.50 dollars for 49 residences, while Alhambra issues 175216 for 30 homes and one duplex. Monrovia shows 65541 for 12 homes. South Pasadena declines to 31645 from 67080 in 1940 with four new homes and two duplexes. Arcadia totals 108900 and Sierra Madre reaches 50848, up from 16410 in 1940.

Garage Burglar Sentenced To San Quentin

Charles Buettner, arrested in San Marino January 20 by Officer Homer Smith, was sentenced in Pasadena Superior Court to 1 to 14 years in San Quentin for two burglary counts with a denial of probation. The sentences run concurrently. Police officials from San Marino and South Pasadena attended the hearing.

Major Veronda Honored At Church Service

Major Maurice Veronda celebrated as his three month old son Kenneth Ramsey Veronda was the first infant baptized since the San Marino Community Church organized January 26. He received a bronze plaque for permitting the church to meet in Lincoln Hall at the South Western Military Academy. The service included the first communion and 23 new charter members. The inscription credits Major Veronda for founding the church on January 26, 1941.

Sport Coupe Stolen Monday In Pomona

Mrs John A Evans of 1197 Loma Vista Pomona reported her 1939 Buick sport coupe license 8Q 7424 stolen from in front of Dr G E Norwoods office 2451 Huntington Drive between 1 and 230 Monday afternoon Local police are investigating the theft.

Two More Gas Stations Robbed This Week

Police reports show two service stations burglarized between 10 p.m. Sunday and 7:30 a.m. Monday. Entry was gained by breaking rear windows or doors. Standard Service at 2290 Huntington Drive was robbed with no theft, while Norman Russell Service lost a flashlight and 25 cents.

Strings and Woodwinds Will Be Feature of Junior Town Hall

The San Marino Junior Town Hall presents a 3 39 pm program at Huntington School Auditorium. The San Marino String Quartet with Beeley Marsh Baldwin Clauser Weirick will tell the story of strings from one instrument to the next. Gladys Howson will introduce the hidden harp with piano, then Elise Baxter Moennig will perform flute as the pipe joins the ensemble.

Judge Warns Solicitors On Violations

Judge James P. Mackel presided over a crowded session hearing 95 traffic citations. The court collected 443 in fines for speeding failure to make boulevard stops disregarding signals reckless driving and public intoxication. Two juveniles were sent to traffic school and lectured by the judge.

San Marino Scandals of 1941 to be told Friday night

The Huntington and Valente P T A Fathers Night program presents San Marino Scandals of 1941 Friday in the Huntington School Auditorium. Tickets sold out via board members. no door sales. The show, built around the dedication of the San Marino Women's Club House, features auditions for a national television broadcast and a variety of specialty numbers and ballet acts led by Mrs Verri Vague and Shmroo Vague with local club and organization participants.

Founder's Day at Library Highlights Chandos Era Arts Manuscripts

Mr. Baker, head of art research, discusses the Stowe manuscripts bought by Mr. Huntington in 1925. The collection spans seven centuries with a Chandos era group from 1460 to 1740, including Duke of Chandos account books and notes on South Sea Bubble losses.
