The Huntington Teacher Association announces a two day art exhibit at the San Marino High School gymnasium featuring local painters and sculptors, with music by residents and episodes of entertainment each afternoon and evening. Proceeds benefit the Huntington PTA.
The San Marino school announces the dedication of the Huntington auditorium on Friday March 13 at 8 o'clock with a musical program by the Girls Glee Club the Girls Sextet and a Hawaiian guitar solo by Jimmie Neher superintendent Elmer C Neher says invitations have been mailed and all city officials and residents are invited to attend.
Executive board of the Stoneman P T A will meet in Room 6 at the school on March 11 at 10 o clock to discuss an essay program.
Pasadena Independent criticizes San Marino Ordinance 260 barring city publications. Court rules the paper not a newspaper of general circulation. Voters urged to vote referendum supporting council and delivery by mail through established channels.
The Huntington Parent-Teacher Association fathers prepare a gala night in San Marino under chairman Joseph N. Owen. Local attorney Owen directs and Oscar Rasbach leads musical numbers as rehearsals continue and secrecy remains over the show's nature.
The San Marino Boy Scout Court of Honor will meet Tuesday at 7 30 p m in the Huntington School auditorium for its bi monthly session. First and Second Class awards merit badges and rank awards will be presented to three San Marino troops. Troop 1, sponsored by the San Marino City Club, will lead with an original demonstration. Maurice Jones Scoutmaster Philip Gresham troop committee chairman. The event is under San Marino City Club and American Legion post 239 auspices. Stanley Arndt will preside.
The Tribune corrects an editorial claim about Pasadena Independent petition circulation for Ordinance 260. Mrs. Graham Miller of 2130 Sherwood Road says she received no compensation for soliciting, and the paper amends its assertion that solicitors were paid "so much per," noting the earlier claim was not justified.
Webb Miller, United Press European manager, spoke in the Times auditorium about Ethiopia. He described savagery, blood stained land, and cruelties, disputing civilization's reach and predicting Italy could prevail if emboldened. He said the League of Nations cannot stop the invasion.
Randall Kerr outlines campaign for city clerk as experience in municipal government is cited. He notes his seven years as senior accountant for Lybrand, Ross Bros. and Montgomery and current temporary work for Thomson Cooper and Thomson, CPAs. Kerr has lived at 1355 Winston Avenue, San Marino, for seven years.
FRANK COLLINS writes of a spontaneous trip to Mount Wilson, arriving by buzz-wagon after packing essentials. The Mount Wilson Hotel welcomes visitors with bright lights gleaming over the valley and a vivid vista of stars above as the author settles in for an evening of rest and reflection.
The Huntington School grounds will host supervised play for all San Marino boys each Saturday from 10 to 5, starting once a supervisor is secured. The program runs through June 27, ending the fiscal year, with playground commission members listed as Mrs. H. D. Ivey, Mrs. J. T. Whittemore, Harlan G. Mills, John G. Alpine, and Elmer C. Neher.
The San Marino Garden Club schedules its bi monthly meeting on Tuesday March 10 at 730 pm in Huntington School Cafeteria featuring J A Gooch of Armstrongs Nurseries Ontario who will discuss New Plants and How to Use Them. He will host a Q A session show slides and display specimens as part of the program plus an unusual plant exhibit by members.
Huntington P T A commends San Marino City Council for enforcing the handbill ordinance. The executive board adopted a resolution praising the council’s efforts to rid the city of handbills and throw-around papers and will forward it to the city council.
San Marino Democrat D W Adamson of 1832 West Drive announced his bid for Congress from California's Twelfth District. A longtime educator at Garfield High School he holds degrees from USC and is active in many civic and fraternal groups including the Montebello American Legion and East Los Angeles Y M C A. He fought in World War I earning a Verdun Medal and field distinctions.
The Oneonta Club in South Pasadena presents a varied program led by the Girls' Glee Club of the South Pasadena Senior High, directed by Marjorie Alyce Brown and Jean Killgrove. James C. Sands narrates a humorous story, and Harold L. Doolittle showcases polarized light color and light effects.
San Marino Studio Theater will stage the old fashioned melodrama East Lynne with a ten day run starting Thursday March 26. Douglass Cooper and Margaret Hopkins direct. Cast includes Harris Cook Robbie Atkins Howard Stevenson Elizabeth Lownes Gwenn Dodge Helen Long and Eugene White.
San Marino residents greet the San Marino Day event at the Times Building today with museum tours from 2 30 to 9 p m and a KHJ radio broadcast from 3 30 to 3 45 featuring Frank Collins. The program highlights city features as Dale Armstrong leads a musical sequence and Oscar Rasbach conducts others. A community dinner at Taix French Restaurant runs 6 to 7 with special Pacific Electric cars transporting attendees from Palmas station.
Bert Caswell proprietor of Las Tiendas grocery was awakened by noises under his apartment above Las Tiendas Cafe and found the window tampered with. Police were notified but no trace of the intruder was found. The motive appears to be entry to the cigarette case near the window.
Two topics will be discussed at the Parent Education meeting on Tuesday March 19 at 1 pm in the Oneonta School library. Mrs. H V Henry of Glendale leads the session with talks on Individual Differences in Children and Value of the Intelligence Tests.
Miss Vaul Stark will head the Birthday Review marking the 24th anniversary of Girl Scouting in the United States. The Pasadena Area hosts troops from Pasadena and surrounding cities with a program including a play and demonstrations, noting 938 local Girl Scouts and 1163 total registered members in the area.
Mr. Julien F. Detmer retired woolen manufacturer visits Huntington Hotel and praises Southern California. In a Pasadena Star-News interview he urges eastern friends to come, cites the Henry E. Huntington Library and Art Gallery as a superb regional asset and its gardens as wonderful.
