Four and a half inches of rain fell in 24 hours as part of a five day storm leaving San Marino among the driest in Southern California. The town saw flooded streets basements and gas hazards with cars abandoned and residents guided by police in boats.

Death of Dr James Douglas Mourned in San Marino
Dr James Roy Douglas vice president of Security-First National Bank and longtime San Marino resident died after a month long illness at Good Samaritan Hospital in Los Angeles. He was 47, survived by his widow Vivian and four daughters. Funeral services were held at All Saints Episcopal Church in Pasadena with burial arrangements noted. He led civic efforts as president of the Santa University of California club and spoke to the San Marino Business Association.

Three Men Held After Local Station Hold-up
Los Angeles police report arrest of Dan Thurston James Bolin and Joe Messina for the Union Service station robbery at Mission and Los Robles on Saturday night February 11. Thurston allegedly confessed to the local hold-up in Chief Gene Woods presence and claimed five more heists that night. A getaway car was found in front of Chief Woods home and another car stolen from Pasadena was dropped and recovered the next day.

A burglary at Our Market occurred in the early morning hours Friday. The front door lock was cut with metal cutters, allowing entry. The cash total stolen is unknown, with 10 flat ettes and 5 boxes of unspecified items missing.
Robbery at Cray Residence on Monterey Road
A burglary at 2835 Monterey Road during a Sunday between 3:30 and 9:45 p.m. stole clothes, lingerie and jewelry after a screwdriver entry through a rear closet window. Edward C. Cray and family were away. about $150 value of goods, including pants, women's wear, socks, shoes and costume jewelry, were taken.

Drunk Charges Bring Three Men To Jail House
Three men were jailed in San Marino for drunkenness over the weekend. Haslett Smith and Earl W. Melville, both Los Angeles residents, were arrested after a taxi dispute and released the next day after paying fare and $10 bail each. C. J. Pearce, president of the Broadway Spring Arcade Building Corp, was arrested following a mile chase and held on $250 bail before release.

Sudden Death of Engineer W K Runyon Shocks Friends
William Kerper Runyon of 981 Afton road died suddenly last Monday night in Los Angeles after a heart attack as he prepared to retire. He had lived in San Marino about ten years and leaves wife Margaret Frances Runyon. A consulting engineer, he worked in over 30 countries and 16 years with the county surveyor’s office. Funeral services were held at the Alhambra chapel with private interment in Mountain View cemetery, San Bernardino.

Carroll Holt Recovering From Traffic Crash
Officer Carroll J. Holt was struck while directing heavy traffic at Huntington drive and St. Albans. He survived with shock and bruises, not broken bones, after being hit by Joseph Hart of Sholom Ranch Azusa at about 40 mph. Holt was hospitalized and expected to recover. Hart received a citation for failure to observe signals.
