Founders Day featured humorous island costumes and school leaders competing in playful challenges. The event honored volunteers with the Hula Girl trophy, and San Marino Schools Foundation received the Golden Oak Service Award for raising over 16 million dollars in 25 years.

San Marino resident Henry Bumstead earned Academy recognition as Clint Eastwood thanked him during the Oscars for Best Picture winner Million Dollar Baby. Bumstead, 89, with four Oscar nominations and wins for To Kill a Mockingbird and The Sting, recalled dozing off as his wife Lena alerted him.
