The American Red Cross Fund Drive started in San Marino with the San Marino League sending letters to residents. Chairman William M. Martin urged a 15 percent, $40 000 increase over last year and asked donors to mail contributions early. The drive funds four blood banks, hospital canteens, Christmas gifts for servicemen, birthday gifts at Hastings Sanatorium, box shipments for schools abroad, and scholarships, supported by over 4000 volunteer hours annually.

Residents Give 18000 For March Of Dimes Drive
San Marino residents raised over 18000 for the March of Dimes led by chairman Dell McDaniel. Most funds came from mailed appeals with over 10000 received by mail and 6550.64 from mothers under Mrs Paul Connelly. Houghton Metcalf of Pasadena Dies at 63
Funeral services marked the passing of Houghton Metcalf native of Providence R I and longtime Pasadena resident who died February 25 in Pasadena. A Brown University graduate he led a life insurance office in Los Angeles for over 30 years and served in the alumni association. He was born November 11 1881 in Providence. Surviving are his widow Lucile Clark Metcalf three daughters Priscilla Metcalf of London England Rosa line Prochazka and Wesley Mislow both of New York City a brother Henry Knape Mishlow New York.
