The editor of The Tribune and his wife vacation in the High Sierras this week at Brockway on Lake Tahoe. Mr and Mrs Collins left Geno Marino early Saturday morning June 22 and plan to return soon. The piece is a lake travel narrative by Mr Collins describing their trip so far.
Narrative travel note describes a journey from San Marino toward Lake Tahoe passing the Mojave Desert and into the High Sierra. The author admires a smooth, wide highway with occasional snow feel and notes Sierra mountains lifting into view near the oasis of Lom.
San Marino Legionnaires defeated Wilmar 15 to 6 at Huntington School ground to close the first half of the 18th District pennant race. Gleie started for San Marino with three scoreless innings while Wim Hayes finished. Herr, Mills, Norton, Metcalf and Schmitz contributed solid hits as the lineup welcomed Herr back.
The Huntington School playground reports high participation with 75 boys daily under Merle Butterbaugh 31 to 35 girls under Lillian Byrne and about 35 children supervised by L. B. McCasland. Open 9 to 12 daily with Elmer C. Neher noting the successful summer program.
A San Marinan resident Russell C. Lemmon of 969 Afton Road is honored in banking circles as trust officer and assistant cashier at Farmers and Merchants Bank Los Angeles. He chairs the editorial board for the Los Angeles Chapter and handles publishing for the Los Angeles branch official publication. The Los Angeles branch, with over 300 members, voted the best of its kind.
The San Marino Girl Scout house at Oakleigh and Alhambra road will begin construction next week on land leased from the San Marino School Board. Final lease approval was given at last Thursday’s meeting with George F. Pace and George Van Vorst representing the Scout House Board. Henry Arm Reation Center has been awarded the building contract and work will start by Monday.
Several San Marinans who suffered burglary losses will attend the show up at the Wilshire division of the Los Angeles Police Department. The stolen property valued at 100000 dollars was recovered late last week when two arrests were made as police broke up a large burglary ring.

Monica Shannon of Santa Monica receives the John G Newbery Medal for Dobry the most distinguished contribution to children's literature in 1934 at the American Library Association convention in Denver. Shannon also wrote California Fairy Tales, in San Marino Public Library holdings.
The San Gabriel Valley division of the Los Angeles County Republican Assembly will meet next Monday evening July 1 at Alhambra High School. Speakers will be Assemblyman E. V. Latham and John F. D'Aule. D'Aule is a prominent figure in the party.
George C Bush superintendent of the South Pasadena Schools and Mrs Bush left Sunday to attend the executive committee meeting of the Department of Superintendence in Denver Colorado for the annual National Education Association convention. They will also visit Zion Bryce Yellowstone Lake Louise and Banff before returning to Southern California late July.
A new desk man was employed by the Sam Marino Police Department for summer duties. Paul Groomer of Pasa switch will work from 12 a.m. to 8 a.m. three nights weekly. Chief Gene says Groomer is an expert in handling a gun.
San Marino Troop 1 sends 18 boys to Cherry Valley Catalina Island, the largest group yet for the troop. A Pasadena San Gabriel Valley Council convoy of 117 scouts and leaders departs for the first camp, which will run 10 days with 10 staff and four cooks. The second camp starts July 6. 140 have signed up, aiming for 160 capacity.
The Southwestern Military Academy cadets depart San Marino with 22 boys for a two months outing in Southern California and Mexico. Major Maurice Veranda leads the group aboard The Pioneer and The Pathfinder, with stops at Oceanside Laguna Beach Doheny Park Rosarito Beach San Diego and other locales before returning August 24.
