Robert H. Peddycord, Pasadena seed coal dealer, gives an interview recounting his WWII era service begun May 1917 at Camp Murray as a machine gunner. He notes he never fired a gun at the front, served 21 months in Europe, and was discharged in August 1919.
San Marino Chief of Police Ben Parker warns the city ordinance bans discharging exploding or setting off any blank cartridge firecrackers or fireworks and bans explosive articles. Violations carry a minimum $25 fine or 30 days in jail and will be strictly enforced by the San Marino Police Department.
Mr and Mrs H Stanley Bent of 1385 Old Mill Road along with daughter Margaret and son H Stanley Jr returned from a month long Alaska tour with the Los Angeles Chamber of Commerce excursion party of 175 aboard the Aleutian. They visited Seward Anchorage Sitka Cordova Wrangell Ketchikan and marveled at glaciers. Mrs Bent cited Columbia Glacier as the most impressive sight at 350 feet high 3 5 miles wide and stretching 70 miles inland.
Fire Chief C C Copley advocates game law compliance and conservation. He raises fifty to sixty baby quail at the San Marino fire station and plans to release them in the country when they grow.
Two dogs found with rabies in San Marino trigger police warnings to prevent bites by stray dogs and curb disease spread. Chief Parker urges vigilance while Chief Copley mentions quail releases after the season ends and notes the incubator program. Fire Chief supports the humane wildlife efforts and has raised pheasants as part of the plan.

C H Collins Baker surveyor of the King's pictures and keeper of the National Gallery in London visits Huntington Library to study English paintings for a forthcoming British catalogue. He notes many works by Gainsborough and Reynolds and expresses belief the collection is well placed in America.
Addison B. Day of Los Angeles Gas and Electric Corp named First Vice President of the Pacific Coast Electrical Association at the 14th annual meeting in San Francisco. H. L. Masser also joined the Executive Committee as the LA utility delegation attended the National Electric Light Association convention with about 4000 industry leaders present.
The State Board approves revised plans for Henry E Huntington School to house domestic science and manual training, with bids to be advertised to complete units by summer. Architects Marsh Smith and Powell to manage bids, opened in two weeks. No action on eastern site option from $75 000 bond issue. A daughter was born to Dr and Mrs Edward E Hethcock.
Advertisers claim many residents are away in summer but Chief of Police Ben Parker says less than 10 percent are out of the city at any one time. He notes that volunary absences on vacation are likely overstated.
Mrs Florence Lowe Barnes a San Marino aviatrix has purchased a Travel Air Mystery S monoplane. It is said to be the fastest sport plane built with a speed of 184.5 miles per hour and costs about 16500. Only three others of this type exist. Plans for use are undecided but a test flight is planned soon.
In a Pasadena interview Dr Max Farrand director of the Huntington Library and Art Gallery discusses how library scholarship and art promote international understanding. He argues improved US Britain relations benefit from these fields and transcend national differences despite divergent commercial interests.
