Teachers Vote On San Marino District Contract Offer

Doris Gillespie, president of the San Marino Teachers Association, says 106 members will vote this week on the 1987 88 contract. If approved, retroactive pay starts Sept 1 1987. Ballots were mailed to teachers remaining in the area with votes due mid next week. The panel recommended a five period day at Huntington Junior High and other terms, with three panel recommendations already accepted by the board.

Children's Librarian Stefansson Resigns for Downey Job

Jody Stefansson, longtime San Marino Public Library children's librarian since 1984, will resign July 1 to join Downey City Library as part of a four member management team. UCLA graduate, known as Miss Jody, boosted story hour attendance and summer reading, fostered school collaboration, and began book talks with children.

Budget Over A Month In The Making A Weary Council Adopts Budget

The City Council approved a fiscal year 1988-89 operating budget of 6 461 054 with a capital budget of 600 000 and an infrastructure reserve of 150 000. Mayor Crowley said the council was very tired after weeks of budget review. The plan introduces a capital replacement reserve of 72 5000 to fund asset upgrades and reflects new format to compare operating costs year to year.

Two Men Arrested After One Arms Empty Gun At Local Police Officer

San Marino police arrested two Los Angeles men after one pointed a .38 caliber pistol at Officer Kevin Heagerty during an early morning chase on Monterey Road. The passenger was cuffed after a brief pursuit. the driver was captured nearby. The suspects face one felony count for drawing and pointing a gun at an officer and two misdemeanors, with the arraignment set for June 1.

Firemen to Present Check for Burn Foundation at Relay

The San Marino Fire Department will escort KABC-TV weatherman Dr George Fischbeck through the city tomorrow to raise funds for the Alisa Ann Ruch Burn Foundation. The three day relay spans 72 Southland fire departments and concludes in Redlands with Fischbeck visiting City Hall and receiving donations from the Pancake Breakfast proceeds.
