San Marino City Council accepted the resignation of Police Chief Ben Parker with a vacation of June 19 to August 16 1934 and he is no longer on duty. Gene P Woods of Berkeley was named acting chief after oath of office taken Wednesday afternoon. Woods follows guidance from criminologist August Vollmer and has 10 years of Berkeley Police Department training.

Driver Falls Asleep Causing Pasadena Crash
Early Monday morning L A Miller of 1085 Adelaine drive So Pasadena was hospitalized in critical condition after his car struck a telephone pole on Huntington drive near Molina. He reportedly fell asleep at the wheel. he was treated at Arroyo Clinic and General Hospital. Mrs Miller received injuries and was released to her home. The 2:40 am crash was blamed on fatigue with the street reportedly free of traffic at the time. Another crash earlier at 1 45 pm on Virginia reed and Huntington drive involved a light truck with brake problems.

Stolen Auto Recovered After Morning Pursuit
Officers Archer and Black spotted a high speed car on Huntington drive. Two men jumped from the vehicle east of San Gabriel boulevard and escaped. The stolen car, taken from Miss Josephine I. O'Dell in Wilmington, was recovered and returned to the Torrance owner after an Altadena sheriff's sub-station investigation.
