San Marino Seniors to Receive Degrees Next Week

San Marino High School will award 289 diplomas next Wednesday June 15 at 8 p.m. on the football field with valedictorians Wally Jones and Carol Bennion delivering principal addresses. Huntington School graduates about 280 will receive diplomas with DAR Regent Mrs Eggleston and Legion Commander Dessel Jr presenting awards.

The San Marino High School Graduating Party open house is planned for June 14 from 5 to 8 PM. The event will be hosted at the school area, replacing the previously scheduled earlier timing.

Harbison Added to Who's Who in America

McClarty Harbison of Roanoke Road has been selected for inclusion in Who's Who in America, now in its 31st biennial edition. A longtime Roanoke resident, he serves as a city councilman and is noted for a long record of public service in the city.

Occidental to honor old grad H C McClellan

Harold C. McClellan of Orlando road Occidental alumnus and trustee and former assistant secretary of commerce for international affairs will receive an honorary doctor of laws at the 78th commencement on Sunday June 12 at 7:30 pm. Exercises are in the campus hillside theatre. Workers have collected ostrich plumes balloons doves lumber and ice for the event with planning by Nancy Pierose plus Charles Schriber and a large committee handling centerpieces programs menus and entertainment.

In San Marino, John Rousselot led Howard Seelye two to one as San Marino residents Burke and McKesson also won strong support. Nixon gained over 5,000 votes statewide. George Kasem led the Democratic tally locally with 283. Fletcher won the Pasadena Municipal Court race. Dorn topped Hinman in the Fifth Supervisorial District. L. B. Conant, prominent attorney, died last Friday. his memorial was held at Rose Hills.

The San Marino City Council chose Allen L Laws of Euclid Avenue to fill the post created by the death of Mayor Carson W Ide. Laws, district manager for Southern California Alhambra district, has long served civic groups including the San Marino Library Board, San Marino Lodge, Community Chest, and the Alhambra Chamber of Commerce.

The show includes the first dictionary printed, the Catholican of Joannes Balago, and Webster’s Dictionary with early 1828 editions and manuscripts in Noah Webster’s handwriting.

Summer Hours Begin at San Marino Library

The San Marino Public Library shifts to summer hours starting Monday June 20 with closing time at 6 p.m. The Boys and Girls Department also closes at 6 p.m. beginning Friday June 17, according to librarian Miss June Bayless.

Wrong Side Parker Tickets Issued By San Marino Police

Beginning Wednesday June 15 the San Marino Police Department will issue citations for parking on the wrong side of the street. Chief Joseph G Miller states officers will cite vehicles parked with wheels not within 18 inches of the right curb as required by the California Vehicle Code.

Redlands Honors Powell Quillan For Service

Two San Marino residents received University of Redlands Alumni Banquet citations for outstanding community and alma mater service. Herbert J. Powell and Claude A. Quillan were recognized by Alumni Awards Committee chairmen William E. Roskon. Powell also earned the Los Angeles YMCA's Golden Book of Distinction entry at the 78th annual meeting.

Funeral services for Zelma M Flanagan in San Marino

Zelma M Flanagan a 20 year San Marino resident died last Thursday. Funeral services were held Tuesday at San Marino Community Church with Rev Frederick W Cropp officiating. She is survived by two daughters Mrs H J Towle of South Pasadena and Mrs W M Howard of La Jolla two sons John H Flanagan of Pasadena and William J Flanagan of Glendale three sisters Mrs Laura Cheney of Ohio Mrs Nellie Shugert of Burbank and Mrs Frank Seaward of Long Beach a brother Frank McMillin of Santa Barbara nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren Directors were Wendell P Cabot and sons.

Jr Red Cross Contributes to Chilean Relief

San Marino’s Junior Red Cross donates 100 dollars to Chilean relief and 250 dollars to the National Children’s Fund announced by Don Allen at a High School assembly. Local president Mrs. Charles R Kavanaugh notes the gift will seed relief shipments, with clothing urged through church groups and funds sent to 1424 Kenilworth Drive.
