Building totals for San Marino rose to 991 182.25 dollars in the first five months of 1940 up from 1949 totals, with May seeing fewer permits than 1939. San Marino Pilot William Benson Dies in Plane Crash
William Melville Benson 26, co pilot of a Douglas DC 5, died in a crash near El Segundo. Funeral held at Church of Our Saviour San Gabriel with Dr John R Atwill officiating. Benson, husband of Virginia Brooks, married eight months earlier in the same church. He studied at MIT and Stanford, was a flight engineer for Douglas Aircraft, and belonged to Sigma Xi and Delta Kappa Epsilon. He is survived by his parents two brothers and a sister.
