The school budget appears to rise more than twelve percent with a tentative operating tax rate likely to increase for 1969 70 though exact figures depend on ground to be covered and state allotments yet to be settled. The board must adopt a tentative budget by June 30 and final figures by mid July after reassessment data becomes available.
In San Marino seven candidates for three seats on the Board of Education filed campaign receipts and expenditures totaling over 10,000. Individual totals range from 389.12 to 2751.47 with an average around 1500. The largest spender was Daken Broadhead at 2751.47, while others include J Terry Maxwell 1654.89 and 1342.63 spent, J Bradford with 2036.64, Richard Cooper 1401 received 1396.02 spent, Robert De Rienzo 389.12, Carl Lieber 1768.28, and Daniel Murphy 960.70. Most funds went to printing, advertising and postage.
Fortifiber president Stanley G. Yount won the Marquis Award for excellence in management at a California Club dinner in Los Angeles. The award honors citizenship and competent, high integrity leadership among ten U.S. and Canadian executives.
Braun resigns from his San Marino High School post after four years as assistant principal in charge of student activities. He will assume the duties of principal at Vista High on July 1. A New York native, he attended Manual Arts High School, served in the Navy, earned a BS in business education from USC in 1949 and an EdM in 1950.
Six San Marino High School students join 34 San Gabriel Valley youths as ambassadors in the Experiment in International Living. They will spend four weeks in a homestay abroad and four weeks with groups of peers and leaders in 15 countries. The San Marino group includes Mary Ruckles Kathleen Walter Bruce Walter Pamela Cravens Kacie Crisp and Lucinda Halstead. The announcements were made at a Pasadena reception hosted by David and Mrs. Elliot, who chair the local council in Putney Vermont.
Mrs. E R Davis was installed as president of the Stoneman PTA at her home with decorations and luncheon provided by Mrs. Wil fred Stroud and others. The group elected officers including Log an Boggs Gordon Fairland Charles Miller and several committee chairs overseeing cultural arts health education publicity and welfare.
San Marino Police Chief James W Moore returns from Washington DC after completing the FBI National Academy 83rd session. The White House East Room hosted the diploma ceremony with President Nixon and FBI Director Hoover.
At last week’s Planning Commission session two variances were approved and one denied. Edward G Heath and James W Baldwin received rear setback variances for additions. Otis Booth requested a variance to forego two required street parking spaces and the plan to convert the carport to automotive use was instructed for reconversion.
San Marino launches a citizen driven crime alert program co sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce City Club and the Independent Insurance Agents Association. The effort produced 4500 Crime Alert kits with a phone sticker and protective measures brochure for residents Avery Products Corporation.

In a precedent setting Court of Honor Tuesday night ten Boy Scouts received the Eagle Scout Award the highest honor in scouting. Recipients were Dwayne Foster Don Harnish Robert Chillingworth David Swisher Mark Lester James Coulombe James Leetham Ross Barker Walter Norton and Douglas Chenoweth all from local troops. John P. Lane Rose Bowl District Commissioner presented the awards.
The San Marino Foundation announces its 24th annual community barbecue on Saturday June 21 at the Carver School grounds located at Huntington Drive and San Gabriel Boulevard. Event hours run from 3 to 7 p.m.
Two minor suspects were arrested after a prank call to the Police Department prompted a quick response. Mrs. Betty M Head reported seeing them try the back door after a doorbell went unanswered. One suspect was detained at the scene and the other in Arcadia while walking home.
The San Marino PTA Council invites parents and students to a program on artificial resuscitation at the San Marino Library auditorium on Wednesday evening June 11 at 7 30 p m. The program features the film Breath of Life and attendees may practice resuscitation on Annie the mannequin with instruction from Assistant Fire Chief Ken Robinson. Recruit Chief Petty Officer Stephen Metcalf, son of Mr and Mrs Eugene Metcalf of San Marino, earned the American Spirit Honor Medal and Certificate at the Naval Training Center San Diego. The top award honors leadership and embodies American spirit among graduating recruits, donated by the Citizens Committee for the Army Navy and Air Force Inc in New York.
United States Senator George Murphy will address the Pasadena Unit of Pro America at a June 6 luncheon at the Huntington Sheraton Hotel in Pasadena.
