San Marino Police Chief James Moore urges residents to defend homes during summer travel period. June 1977 declared Burglary Prevention Month with tips on lighting using timers, trimming yard upkeep, and marking residences to deter intruders.
San Marino Ward sponsors Troop 360 six Eagle Scouts Joe Davidson Eric Turner Mike Wong Ty Broadhead Tim Broadhead Kris Raney plus Scott McGregor who earned an Eagle with Gold Palm. The group completed 24 merit badges each and 24 hours community service plus guiding five other boys in the project.
The San Marino Recreation Department announces a summer program with Lacy Park Free Wheelers seen around town and multiple activities. Registration runs June 6 to 10 at the Recreation Office 2200 Huntington Drive from 1 to 4 30 p.m. Residents of the San Marino Unified School District only may participate. The first Free Wheelers session begins June 20 with two week sessions through August 13. Programs include Tap Dance Ballet Modern Dance directed by Olivia Hunt Susan Stebbins and Eileen Bassett. New offerings include a girls softball clinic at the High School Baseball Diamond Water polo for girls and judo among others.

San Marino High School appears set to enter CIF soccer for the next season after resolving coaching questions. The move comes as the school seeks stability and new leadership for its boys program.
Huntington School's tennis clinic, run by volunteer mothers, reported 198 participants this year across four levels from advanced to beginner. Winners in the Monday clinic included Roger Schjelderup and Rick Wainschel with Edward Lanchantin taking the singles consolation.
The Los Angeles County Superior Court released a list of 298 Grand Jury nominees for 1977 78 including nine residents of San Marino Among the nominees 165 are women and 133 are men The jury will serve from July 1 1977 to June 30 1978 A Judges Committee will screen nominees and objections before a judges meeting approves the final list.
