Carl A. Peterson of the California Real Estate Association commends the legislature for a tax relief program in S. C. A. 30 to be voted on June 27. He praises President Hayden F. Jones for his personal work at the session and says the amendment meets the wishes of the real property sector.
The final Stoneman PTA meeting of the year is set for Tuesday at 2 PM in the kindergarten rooms. The program features the kindergarten band, remarks by Mrs. Sievert on the Long Beach Convention highlights, a historian’s report by Mrs. W. B. Bean, and installation of new officers by Mrs. Meyers. A social tea follows as teachers host tables. mothers are urged to attend and meet the officers for the coming year.
Troop 1 members met after a intra-troop baseball game at the Scout cabin last Saturday May 27. Fourteen Scouts split into two teams led by Scoutmaster Maurice Jones and Assistant Scoutmaster Ronald Walker. Walker’s team won 13 to 11 on the City Park lawn as the group ate dinner outdoors behind the cabin.
The S. W. Military Academy hosts a Dutch Detective Farce tonight at Linoln Hall with cast including Stephen Berczik Toby Cogswell Roy Brown Carol Verenad William Covell Philo Hoefler Robert Strong Edwin LeBaker and Robert Sellers. A musical recital and orchestra concert follow on Sunday June 11 at 2 pm. Closing day exercises Friday June 16 at 8 pm feature diplomas awards and medals. Major Maurice Veronda will return from Arizona for the events.
San Marino Day will be observed Saturday June 17 with ceremonies and games. Music, vocal and instrumental performances, bicycle races, running and jumping contests, and various other features are planned in preparation for the event.
The Southern California Edison Company through district manager E B Cummings at Alhambra announces office hours are now 8 30 am to 5 pm, with Saturday hours 8 30 am to 12 o'clock.
A special school of instruction for new chairmen and officers of local associations in the First District California Congress of Parents and Teachers will be held Thursday morning June 8 at the First Methodist Church Glendale corner Kenwood and Wilson. The program includes round table conferences on departmental activities with leaders Mrs P M Grant Mrs H E Sharp Mrs H R Arch bald and Mrs C E Riley directing discussions.
Roland C. Casad from Covina urges a federal program to paint every building in the United States. He argues it would preserve structures, create millions of jobs, boost material demand, and lift national mood, with Congress funding the effort as a major economic move.
Huntington students from Henry E Huntington School staged a spring pageant Mother Goose and Her Rhymes on school grounds May 26. Janet Norton played Mother Goose with attendants as Humpty Dumpty and Old King Cole. 6-A and 7-B classes invite attendees to a June 2 gathering at Jean Quesnell home with games and a barbeque.
The final Huntington P.T.A. meeting is postponed to Tuesday June 13. It will start with dinner in the school cafeteria with Mrs. Price in charge of arrangements.
Oneonta Club hosts Ladies Night at the Noel Huntington on Monday with John P. Whitmore as program chairman. Presiding at the event, President Sveik awards the Stanley Bent cup. Guest of honor John Steven McGroarty will attend as a featured guest. Carl Omeron and Mrs. Carl Omeron provide a solo and accompaniment, with Julia Malloy performing violin pieces with Josef.
The San Marino Chorus will present its third concert next Wednesday at 8:00 p.m. in Huntington School auditorium. Mezzo-soprano Elizabeth Vermeullen of South Pasadena will sing two groups with accompanist Gladys Howson, aided by two instrumental soloists Albert Adams pianist of St. Pasadena andRachel Merrill violin student of Leonard Auer from Alhambra. Admission is 15 cents, 5 cents for school children, funds to support the chorus music program.
Dr. Robert A. Millikan chair of the Caltech executive council will lead the weekly demonstration lecture in Culbertson Hall. He will discuss Atomic Structure, a topic of wide interest following recent Bohr conferences and on the heels of Neils Bohr’s visit to the campus.
