Congressman James E. Rogan will address the San Marino Rotary Club on August 13 about Washington Daze with humor. He represents California's 27th District including Burbank Glendale Pasadena San Marino Sunland and Tujunga La Crescenta La Canada Altadena and parts of Los Angeles.
The San Marino Chinese Club invites all residents to join a November 7 dinner at the Universal Hilton and Towers. Event chair Se-Yao Hsu says the festival will unite the community and support the San Marino Schools Foundation through all proceeds. Former president Joseph Chang highlights the event as a major fund raiser and social occasion for the club.
Gary F. Pfister of Pasadena is elected chairman of the Republican Central Committee of the 44th Assembly District succeeding Bill Ukropina who serves on the central committee. Pfister vows volunteer recruitment and GOTV to revitalize the local conservative movement.
Police urge San Marino residents to join the 15th Annual National Night Out on Tuesday August 4. More than 9,000 communities worldwide participate to boost crime and drug prevention awareness, foster partnerships, and deter criminal activity from 7 to 10 p.m. Residents are asked to lock doors and turn on exterior lights.

San Marino Grill celebrated 33 years of operation at 2494 Huntington Drive as owner Walter Celic and Natalia hosted a cake and balloons. Regulars, including longtime customer Mr Peterson since 1975, describe the eatery as a home away from home and a Cheers-like gathering spot. Celic, born in Croatia, opened the restaurant in 1965 after prior ventures.
Supporters of Steven Age, San Marino Fire Department battalion chief, have set up an Education Trust Fund for his 19 month old daughter Lenessa while Age, battling brain cancer after brain surgery, remains hospitalized. Age has served City of San Marino as Incident Commander and Fire Marshal among other roles. Your prayers are requested. See TRUST FUND page A-5.

A library air conditioning motor caught fire on July 17 forcing a closure at 1 p.m. due to dangerous heat per OSHA standards. Reference staff said fans and open windows were used to ventilate while repairs and a new motor were ordered. City Manager Deborah Bell said cooling would be restored soon and authorized librarians to act.
John C. Siciliano of San Marino was elected to Huntington Memorial Hospital's board of directors joining Paul L. Hougang and Jaynie Studenmund. He chairs investment committees, served as CFO of Technicolor, and holds roles with California Community Foundation and National Conference on Community and Justice.
