Arnone named chairman of United Way information committee

Francis H. Arnone chief executive of The Broadway is appointed chairman of the United Way corporate public information committee. He will direct 25 volunteer communications specialists and oversee year round public relations programs for the organization while continuing roles with Boy Scouts of America Central City Association and California State University boards. He lives on Lombardy Road with wife Elizabeth and children David Liz and Francia.

Caltech faculty win teaching excellence awards from ASCIT

Seven Caltech faculty receive ASCIT teaching excellence honors based on student evaluations for clarity enthusiasm subject mastery and class rapport. Recipients include Dr David Sanderson Mellon Postdoctoral Instructor in Literature for his Class The Set in Literature and Shakespeare and Dr Robert R Wark for reading British Art of the Georgian Period. Wark serves as art curator at the Huntington Library.

Everett G. McDonough Jr joins CSU Los Angeles University Development Board

Everett G. McDonough Jr is appointed to the California State University Los Angeles University Development Board to aid fundraising. He is vice president and division head at Security Pacific National Bank and a Cornell and Columbia MBA graduate. His civic roles include Deputy Western Regional Finance chairman for the U S Olympic Committee and leadership positions with Junior Achievement and other LA area groups. He resides on El Molino Place.

Police Seek Suspect in BB Gun Attack on Officer Near Eye

San Marino police ask public help to identify a person who shot Officer Roger Erwin in the eye area with a BB or pellet gun near the Melville Drive squad car on June 17. Paramedics treated him at the station and he was released. Sgt. Butler said more information may be needed.

San Marino School Foundation welcomes new trustees

At its July 21 meeting the San Marino Schools Foundation Board expanded to 18 with new trustees Sue Roegh Pam King Ruth Mayeda Judy Weden Tom Kanphurst Bernie LeSage Hugh W Horne and Robert. President Tom Kibler announced a goal of 350000 for 1982 43 to fund services and materials not covered by state aid. The board outlined priorities including maintaining a six period day at the high school and a maximum kindergarten class size. Deferred maintenance concerns include Huntington School plumbing and Carver School boiler issues. The foundation, formed in 1980, supports San Marino schools as a nonprofit organization.

Water Rates Hike 2.24 Percent For City Utility

California Public Utilities Commission approves a 2.24 percent rate increase for about 13 400 California American Water Company customers in the San Marino district to offset higher groundwater charges. Ground water costs rose by 106.00 annually since last rates. Also notes Southern California Gas Company 71 000 annual rise to fund a solar water heater demo program for residential users, mainly multi family and low income housing.

Huntington Drive repairs on schedule for August repaving

City hall reports Huntington Drive repairs on the south side from Redford Road to Del Mar Avenue are on schedule with concrete work curb repairs gutters and handicap ramp installations set to be complete in time for August repaving.

San Marino Votes On Five Year Police And Fire Levy

About 100 residents attended a Monday public hearing at SMHS Little Theater to discuss extending the police and fire services assessment up to 2 million dollars annually for five years. Mayor Reithover outlined how San Marino, a general law city, funds services post Prop 13, noting personnel cuts from 113 to 72 and promising no new programs or staff. City manager Charles Martin explained the five year plan's legal aspects and equitable treatment for new homeowners, stressing that most property tax dollars stay in the city.
