San Marinans win first prize at Balboa lights contest
Two San Marinans captured first prize in the first division decorated canoes at the Balboa Tournament of Lights on a Saturday night at Balboa. The runners up included Miss Dorothy Hollis and Dawn Hollis, daughters of Mr and Mrs Clarence J Hollis of 45 Adair Street. The winning entry was an 18 foot Old Town canoe decorated with Japanese lanterns asparagus ferns and barns. Local Boy Scouts Win New Honors
Members of Troops 1 and 2 of San Marino Boy Scouts received merit badges and honors at the Honor Court. Troop 1 under San Marino City Club sponsorship earned badges in first aid in swimming, handicraft and life saving for Francis Crandall and Walter Gresham. Troop 2 had two boys raised to first class, Louis Melzer and Edward Sprotte. Merit badges went to R. D. Allen for swimming, Gordon Martin for scholarship and Gerald Shea for scholarship. Shea also earned the Eagle Scout award.
