Plans approved for a new San Marino Women’s Clubhouse at 1800 Huntington Drive on a 132 by 200 foot tract. Architect Marion J. Warner to design a two room facility with a 400 seat auditorium, 275 seat dining room, and versatile spaces. Construction expected to begin this fall.

Interior finishing has begun at the new Catholic parish school on Huntington drive. Rev. William Fox says it will be ready for the fall term in September. Construction started last March as part of St Felicitas and Perpetua Church. completion slated for late August. Total cost about $100,000.
A 61 year old Pasadena cyclist Elias Laurice of 495 Cypress Avenue was thrown 40 feet when his bicycle collided with a car at Old Mill Road and Los Robles Avenue last Tuesday. He is at Huntington Memorial Hospital with a broken left leg head injuries and multiple bruises. Driver Lt Elmo Paul Monroe said both traveled south when Laurice turned left suddenly making impact unavoidable. Marine Private D L Terry of Long Beach riding in the car corroborated the driver statement.
Three San Marino officials retire under the new pension plan effective July 1. Building Inspector George H. Cronshey health officer Delfino Hernandez and senior desk officer Arthur Whitchurch leave after reaching 70. Cronshey served since 1925 guiding growth from 1,000 to roughly 12,000 population. Temporary successor Charles A. Lewis fills duties.
After three months of reduced postal service residents criticize delays and costly add ons while urging restoration of normal two daily deliveries. They blame late boxes post 7 pm and argue for cutting administration costs as Congress weighs restoring service.
Dr. Norman Vincent Peale urges Americans to wake up to danger and leadership gaps. He cites Korea policy and Communist threats, warning of domestic uprising if vigilance wanes and crediting President Truman's Korea action as essential.

The San Marino Community Church announces Camp O Ong a from August 18 to September 27 offering a ten day program of family friendly activities. Newly built facilities include kitchens living rooms cabins and hot showers with mountain drinking water and hearty meals. Activities feature hiking tennis baseball ping pong a heated pool and evening camp fires with Sunday services in an outdoor chapel.
The Tribune reports San Marino City Schools and South Pasadena San Marino High School budgets will have public hearings next week. Hearings occur Tuesday at Huntington School and Wednesday at South Pasadena San Marino High School. Budgets are similar to last year with shifts to reserves and elementary increases driven by more teachers salary raises and new classrooms.
A burglar identified as Arthur Jame Kent fled from Captain Eddie Norwine on Bedford Road. Kent was shot twice as he ran from the rear of a residence and later collapsed, receiving treatment at Huntington Hospital for critical wounds before transfer to the County Hospital jail ward. Police had earlier set a trap with Patrolman Albert Lemke.
San Marino officials report total fines for the 1949-50 fiscal year reached 37368.50 with only one racing meet held at the track. The police noted keen competition in ticketing at the Santa Anita event as part of city enforcement efforts.

Today at the Rotary Club noon meeting at Pierre’s Ogden Payton Jordan is the featured speaker. Jordan is Occidental College track coach and, on grass, held the world 100 yard dash record at 9.5 seconds set in Jamaica in 1941. In 1944 he earned honorable mention and was named to the All American Service team. President pro tem Irving King will officiate.
San Marino families will gather for Joseph Lee Day activities including volleyball softball and other games plus a picnic supper at Lacy Park next Saturday afternoon and evening. Sponsored by the San Marino Recreations Department, the event runs 3 to 6 30 p m with families bringing their own suppers. Joseph Lee, born 1862 and died 1937, is celebrated as the Father of the Public Recreation Movement in America for promoting youth health and fitness.
