San Marino cadets in World War II service and losses
The past week reports show Lt. Kenneth E. Cotton missing after his plane failed to return from a raid, Lt. Bedford B. Ss wounded, and Albert Edward Weas ejected by Japan. Lt. Cotton, a former San Marino High School football star, was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross posthumously or for a notable action in the Pacific. He last was heard from in a June letter received June 15 and is presumed to have been knocked from the air during a combat over the water near a torpedo plane. Ensign Mead, son of Rollin C. Mead of Monterey, was cited for heroism in an air battle near Santa Cruz Island and had trained in Long Beach and Corpus Christi. Mead and Cotton are singled out among San Marino and South Pasadenan graduates serving in the Navy during World War II.

Frederick L. Carter of San Marino died suddenly at home on 510 La Mirada Avenue last Friday. Funeral services were held Tuesday at the Turner Stevens and Eggleston chapel with the Rev. T. Raymond Jones officiating. Burial will be in Germantown New York. Survived by wife Frances M. Carter and son Alan L. Carter of San Marino and sister Mrs W H J O'Brien of Hamden Connecticut. Carter was longtime Automobile Club of Southern California member and recently in the insurance business.

Mrs. Carl E. McDow Mandena was struck Thursday while crossing Huntington at Oak Knoll by D. W. Rider Jr. She suffered a fractured pelvis and contusions and was treated at Memorial Hospital. Witnesses said she carried a nam package. three citations were issued for traffic violations last week.
