South Pasadena San Marino High School Plans New Building
The board approved a direct tax levy of about ten cents for two years to fund construction of a new main building. A Bush Memorial project near the fine arts building will be funded by a gift, with bids opening August 1. An appraisal of Virginia road property in San Marino was submitted to the district.

Tragic Auto Crash Claims 12YearOld Jimmy Byrne
In a rainstorm near Phoenix Arizona 12 year old Jimmy Byrne of San Marino died instantly when his mother Mrs Paul Byrne collided with a vehicle driven by Sgt Paul Caldwell. Jimmy and his mother were en route to Fort Benning Georgia to visit Capt Byrne. Paul Caldwell and an injured mother were hospitalized. Funeral services were held in Los Angeles with burial at Calvary Cemetery. San Marino residents collected aluminum for a national drive through local markets as Scout Troop No 3 organized the effort led by Stuart Keen with help from Lawrence Remy and Stanley Jacobson.

Six residences began this week with building permits totaling 53 200 for six new homes and 5 200 for seven additions bringing July totals from 76 466 to 134 000. George H Cronshey city building inspector notes two more permits for 10 000. H D Barlow of Los Angeles will build a seven room French Colonial at 792 Winston with F A Stewart of San Gabriel as contractor. Standish R Thompson of San Gabriel will own the 2924 Gainsborough Way seven room home. Stewart also contractor for L Olsen's six room English style home at 1485 Cambridge road costing 9 500. Stratin a and Clemence of Pasadena and Richard Pleger of Pasadena the architect work on a seven room Colonial Tame and stucco at 1458 Cambridge built by Co W Merrick of Los Angeles. E A Daniel of 2350 Huntington is contractor for this.

Frank E. Weymouth, chief engineer with the U S Bureau of Reclamation and leader of Metropolitans Water District work, died at his San Marino home on Tuesday noon July 22. A Maine graduate of 1896 he shaped major hydraulic projects and mentored top engineers. He was an honorary life member of the American Society of Civil Engineers.
