The Sports Guild of the San Marino Women’s Club expands to include golf with plans for lessons from a pro at the new Santa Anita course. Three Local Boys Escape Injury In Highway Crash
Three San Marino boys David Porter Morris Porter and Glenn Beckman with Hayward Thomas of South Pasadena were in a car that overturned two and a half times on the Costa Mesa highway en route to Balboa after a tire blow-out. All escaped serious injury though the vehicle was a total wreck.

Gene Woods Named Laguna Beach Police Chief
Gene B. Woods, formerly San Marino Police Chief, was appointed Laguna Beach Police Chief and took office Monday. He resigns from San Marino after four years, credited with building a modern department and implementing records and identification bureaus. He succeeds Abe W. Johnson, who will remain on paid leave before a city role. Johnson served Orange County forty years after being appointed July 27, 1937.

Friends of Helen Ferris a South Pasadena missionary in China await news amid daily bombardments of Kiukiang. A Wednesday cablegram said all Americans and nationals were evacuated from Kiukiang during the night while Ferris reportedly stayed near the Rulison Girls School where she taught since 1935.

City Building Shows Slight Recession in July Activity
City building records show a small downturn in the first half of July with total permits at 29 500. Four new homes and two additions were issued including an 8400 dollar Monterey style home on Gainsborough Road Pasadena and a seven room French Norman dy home on Carlisle Street. Architect William Long of Alhambra and contractor George W White Jr. coordinated the Alhambra projects. Other builds include two Monterey Colonial homes on Brentford Road Los Angeles area by L H Gowdy and Dunlap and Brummett, plus a swimming pool and porch permits at Old Mill Road and Eucalyptus Avenue.

Mrs Wm Smith Injured In Auto Crash Near Memphis
United Press reports Mrs William M Smith of 1426 Waverly Road was hospitalized in Memphis Tennessee after a July 9 automobile crash seventeen miles west of West Memphis Arkansas. She was en route to Alabama to visit relatives and, though only slightly injured, would stay with friends in Memphis before continuing.

The Pasadena Board of Directors approves an agreement with the Pasadena Flower Show Association to locate a permanent four and a half acre exhibition site in Arroyo Seco.
