Police Chief James Moore reported no residential burglaries in June, matching a broader crime decline. Part I offenses fell to 25 with one armed robbery and six thefts. through June 178 Part I crimes, down from 212 last year. Traffic enforcement intensified with 1,004 total citations and 19 accidents, six with injuries.
San Marino held a long Fourth of July celebration organized by the Chamber of Commerce led by Peggy Class. Highlights included an all city swim meet and a fireworks display with Harold Wagner as grand marshal. The chamber sought donations at 2304 Huntington Drive to cover costs while announcing a secret grand marshal.
Matthew J Guglielmo of San Merino has been named to the President's Committee on Mental Retardation. The 21 member advisory panel assists on legislation affecting care and welfare of mentally disabled people. He is a vice president of Carter Hawley Hale Stores and helped raise funds for research and facilities. He and Barbara live on Oxford Road.
Steve Wilkinson son of Owen and Sharee Wilkinson of San Marino has advanced to loan officer in Union Bank's Commercial Loan Department at the South Bay Regional Office in Torrance He joined the bank in 1982 after completing the bank account management training program He holds a bachelor degree from Pomona College and is a San Marino High School graduate now residing in Culver City.
San Marino attorneys Merrill W Francis Kenneth W Wooley and Salvatore Coco join with Michael Blanco to open a law firm in Alhambra operating as Francis and Blanco. Francis, a former Alhambra Hospital Board president and ex chamber of commerce leader, has served as Judge Pro Tem in Alhambra Municipal Court. Wooley, a former Judge Pro Tem, led the San Gabriel Valley Bar Association.

John Seela pursued his 25 year genealogy project on John Lewis descendants, aided by Joan Frazer of San Marino. A garage fire in 1958 nearly halted the work but left the manuscript intact, prompting Frazer to complete a larger than expected study that grew into a 377 page hardbound book The Family of John Lewis Pioneer. Frazer, now in Arcadia, spent years locating missing descendants, producing 2000 mimeographed copies, and later handing the work to Lewis Fisher who edited and published it in San Antonio. The Lewis lineage spans the nation with the largest cluster near San Antonio and a notable ancestor General Andrew Lewis.
