After Lake George he will race in the National Sweepstakes at Red Bank New Jersey. Bobrick has raced boats since childhood and hopes to win trophies for San Marino.
Leslie D. Barnett, an LA Fire Department employee, says he was separated from his family at the Coliseum fireworks show and awoke in West Arcadia after being hit and rolled for about 90 dollars. Police report cuts to his head and torn clothes. he was treated at Alhambra Health Center after being found on Huntington Drive and Sunset Avenue.
A second palm tree fire on Sierra Bonita avenue damaged two ariel cables from the Pasadena Colorado area, cutting 555 San Marino telephones for several hours. Crews spliced in new cable, restoring most lines by midnight and all by 2 a.m. The company moves to prevent future damage.
Sixty members attended the first dinner meeting of the newly formed San Marino Business Association on June 9 at Bow Bells. The highlight was engineer Montgomery Hawks of the Metropolitan Water District describing a seven year project to bring Colorado River water to San Marino and 12 other district cities. John H. Ramirez, as district board member from 1762 Oak Grove Avenue, serves on the Land and Water Problems committees governing the project.
San Marino Post 239 American Legion expresses gratitude for merchants cooperation in closing stores on Armistice Day Labor Day Memorial Day and Fourth of July. The letter credits San Marino merchants and supporting groups for patriotic spirit and notes future closings planned by listed businesses and individuals. Dated July 7 1936.
Entries for the 1936 San Marino Summer Playground Tennis Tournament are now being received by Butterbaugh. Cups donated by the San Marino Playground Commission. Entries close Monday afternoon July 13 with eight entries per division required. Tournament ends by July 31. Four divisions: junior boys and girls through grammar school and senior boys and girls through high school. Pairings set, play starts next week.
San Marino Post 239 American Legion met at A F Jackson home with retiring commander A F Jackson in attendance. Officers were elected without opposition including Commander Henry A Armstrong First vice Jackson Lake and Geo Ringstrom as alternates. The group designated delegates to the State Convention and noted local business closings for Independence Day with assurances to close on Armistice Day Labor Day and Memory Day.

A. L. Gatterdam of 1614 Chelsea Road is named contractor for the first new home to be built in July in San Marino. A seven room two story house at 2235 El Molino Place is for Mr. and Mrs. J. Prestonia of 216 North Gerona San Gabriel with a cost of 6243 dollars.
The San Marino playground will close all day Friday but resume normal activities Monday morning. A Tuesday jacks tournament crowned Betty Lou O’Hare Emmy Lou Butikofer and Mary Margaret O’Hare as winners in seniors 13 to14 juniors 9 to12 and midgets 8 and under. Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs rehearsals continue for a July 17 outdoor performance directed by Miss Marjorie Moberly with Snow White played by Betty Good and other roles filled by local youngsters. A 1936 tennis tournament for grammar and high school students is mentioned in another column. Last Friday closed the second week with about 200 children participating in races, skits, and games ending with peanut, flag, and shoe races and named winners.
Death occurred on July 4 for Emma White Vinton of 2195 Sherwood in San Marino. Survived by daughter Lulu Grace Vinton and son Paul L Vinton, both at the same address. Private funeral services were held Monday at 2 30 PM in the Drawing Room Chapel of Ives and Warren Company Pasadena.
At the reorganizational meeting the San Marino School Board reelected K. L. Carver as president and Dr. E. H. Morrissey as clerk. The first meeting of the new year was held Wednesday night and a public budget hearing is set for August 3.
The Huntington Library opens a special exhibition of thirty highly crafted books from its manuscript and printed collections. Curator Robert Schad notes the show spans from the manuscript era through sixteenth century printing and includes modern works, with bindings, woodcuts, type design and color printing on view through the summer.
The Japanese exhibit in the Children’s Room at the South Pasadena Public Library belongs to Mary Carol Walberg of 1501 St. Albans Road. The display features a temple, a love-scene pair, and other small Japanese figures to accompany books on Japan and promote the summer book tour drawing over 200 South Pasadena children who applied for passports.
Seward C. Simons, executive director of the Pasadena Community Chest and Council of Social Agencies for five years, resigns to take a general director and coordinator role in Flint Michigan. The boards accept his resignation August 15. no successor named. Simons led campaigns raising over 1.33 million dollars and chaired regional social work groups.
The 53rd Assembly District Republican Assembly Executive Committee endorsed E. V. Latham for State Assembly and declined to endorse in the congressional race, urging Republicans to vote for a registered Republican. It named candidates for the 12th District and formed a finance committee to support the district campaign.
City Council in session at City Hall considers rezoning the Ridgeway Sierra Madre corner for a $75000 theater project with rear parking and screen walls to shield nearby homes. The decision is deferred due to absent members. Mrs. E O Cornwell urges a clubhouse on City Park land, while the council warns against opening park space for semi public buildings. A citizen group led by S B Robinson and Oscar Ras- signing off on civic matters.
San Marino sends 35 girls to the Girl Scout Summer Camp near Pasadena at Camp Duquesne Swartout. The two week second session opens yesterday and runs to July 23 before the third session July 2 to August 6.
