San Marino Hazard Mitigation Meeting Planned

City of San Marino schedules a public information meeting on Tuesday July 20 at 6:00 p.m. in city hall council chambers to discuss a local natural hazard mitigation plan under the Disaster Mitigation Plan of 2000. Fourth of July Celebration At Lacy Park In San Marino

San Marino held a subdued Independence Day event at Lacy Park with free fireworks for residents and school district staff as thanks for tax support. Mayor Bob Twist cited 14 000 attendees, cooler weather, and a smooth all day program run by Recreation Director Cindy Collins. Police Chief Art Farris called it the best in five years.

Advisory Committee Sets Course of Study at Athletics Meeting

A dozen citizens and district staffers met to shape San Marino athletic programs at the first meeting of the new advisory committee. Chair Tim Wright outlined aims including self funding, facility improvements, staffing, participation, and funding with a final report due February 1, 2005. The board authorized the foundation to launch a drive to restore locker rooms and gym lighting, with further details on page A-13.

SMHS Class of 74 to Celebrate 30th Reunion

The San Marino High School Class of 1974 will mark its 30 year reunion with events Friday and Saturday July 9 and 10 in San Marino and Pasadena. Organizers expect over 100 classmates. Men and women meet separately at the Ritz Carlton Huntington and Westin Pasadena, then join at 9 p.m. Saturday continues with a second gathering.

City Club backs San Marino High MVP awards funding

City Club announced funding of MVP awards at San Marino High School totaling $1,972 for the 2003-2004 year. President Tom Santley and board member Fred Chen led the effort. The club has funded MVP trophies for six Fall, 10 Winter, and 10 Spring sports for both boys and girls, plus 10 Visual and Performing Arts awards totaling $346.
