A crowd of over 3,000 San Marinans attended the Monday July 5 community picnic at Lacy Park after a parade with marchers, a band, decorated autos, bicycles, tricycles and unicycles. Cars filled side streets as families arrived with hampers for the evening's holiday event and fireworks.
Pamela and Susan Lewis of Afton Road led the Fourth of July swim meet with two records. Susan set a new 25 yard backstroke mark at 18.0 seconds tying Pam who previously held the record. Susan also won the 25 yard freestyle in 14.9 seconds.
Two weeks remain to buy San Marino Night tickets for July 24 at 8 p m. The Dodgers host the World Champion St Louis Cardinals. Over four hundred seats left with a July 21 deadline. Partato 23 of El Monte suffered rib jaw and ankle fractures while Patrick C. Doyle 17 of Yorba Linda had a fractured hand. Partato may be cited for excessive speed.
The second annual Woodlawn parade in Lacy Park features children ages three to fourteen in homemade costumes. Becky Bimmerman led planning with Leslie Miller Rita Bonmas and Ruth Robertson, with Mary Ellen Hennig named parade queen and Nancy Norris as princess.
Police report nine cases of soft drinks stolen from the rear area of a liquor store at 2327 Huntington Drive between Wednesday evening and Thursday morning last week. The chain link gate lock was cut but the main store was not entered.

Joseph W. Lewis Jr. was elected president of the Board of Education for the 1965 66 term succeeding Frank Rice whose term ended June 30. Funds will finance lighting heating and asphalt tile for Huntington School closed circuit studio and convert two bus stalls into a permanent band room.
San Marino police officer 41 year old Michaelson expects to resume duties by mid July after a December collision with a US mail truck at Roanoke and San Marino avenues. He has missed 14 years on the force and seeks damages from the Federal Government for injury and salary loss. The postal truck driver was found guilty of right of way violation.
City Department heads submitted estimates and annual activity summaries to the city manager for the next fiscal year's budget. City Manager Richard Malcolm said he has begun reviewing the reports and plans a preliminary budget document in the coming weeks.
Fire Department suspects children playing with matches caused a Wednesday morning blaze on Ashbourne Drive destroying portions of a frame house owned by John R. Edwards. Estimated damage was 7500 with two upper rooms, a bath, and roof areas damaged as police investigate. In a second fire the department cites fireworks as a possible cause in the rear yard of the same residence.
