Local Troops Honor Four New Eagle Scouts
Four Scouts earned Eagle rank in ceremonies across California. Andrew Sloan, a San Marino High School junior, led as Chaplain's Aide at Philmont and earned 22 merit badges while active in Troop 355 and Omegas. Brandon Bateman of Charter Oak Troop 443 completed a three day project at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church. Grant Moran Ukropina of Troop 4 Pasadena led improvements at Villa Esperanza Services. Nick Ukropina, Loyola High School graduate, helped renovate a Northwest Pasadena home for his Eagle project.

Nadine Ishizu, a 16 year veteran 2nd Grade teacher at K L Carver Elementary, was named SMUSD Teacher of the Year for 2006 2007. The honor was presented by Principal Liz Hollingsworth at the district staff breakfast with family present.

Police Seeks Clues In Unrelated City Robberies
San Marino Police investigate two late June incidents. On June 29 a homeowner on Gainsborough Drive was robbed by two men. one pressed door, tied victim, took wedding ring and fled. An earlier June 28 Winston Avenue attempted robbery is also under review. Suspects described as two males. Page A-9.

City Council Approves '07-08 Budget
The San Marino City Council approved the 2007-08 fiscal year budget in a morning session on January 22 before the June 30 deadline. Staff projections show about 23 million dollars in revenue and 19.6 million in expenditures, with a 3.4 million dollar net increase and 1.1 million from Library Foundation donations. Reserve balance at June 30, 2008 is estimated at 11.4 million dollars, about 65 percent of the general fund operating budget.
