Local Pasadena Girl Scouts Earn Gold Awards For Service
Olivia Woo of Troop 1011 at North Lake Avenue helps younger girls learn coin values through her Gold Award project with Club Twenty One. She will be a Pasadena Polytechnic junior, active in swimming water polo tennis and musicals, and later attends a New Mexico high adventure camp. Hana Svitek, a Poly School junior and longtime Scout, created Special Toys for Special Kids at College View School Glendale to improve hand eye coordination and funds. Kelly Poole designed a curriculum for Pasadena Unified LEARNS for sixth graders, with games and self esteem activities, including services for English learners. Elizabeth Claire of Troop 2051 redecorated Eliot Middle School for counseling spaces, earning Rotary and Violet Richardson awards. Elizabeth is daughter of Jane and Hank Lambert.

District Increases Salary Expenditures And Restores Positions
The San Marino School Board votes to raise overall salary expenditures for 2013 14 to 21.8 million up from 19.9 million, restoring several positions cut during California's financial downturn. New hires include an assistant principal at Huntington Middle, an at risk counselor at San Marino High, a full teaching post at SMHS, plus half time psychology roles at Carver and Valentine and part time instructional aids. A custodian and building trades technician are rehired for maintenance. The district aims to catch up rather than advance, according to Loren Kleinrock.

Wristbands Available for San Marino July 4 Celebration
San Marino residents can buy wristbands for the July 4 fireworks at Stoneman School and Crowell Public Library for 5 dollars with residency proof. Non residents pay 20 dollars at Lacy Park on July 4. Sales end July 3 at 5 PM at Stoneman and 9 PM at the library. Children age 2 and under are free.
