Four Scouts Honored With Gold and Eagle Awards
Katherine, Michael, Peter, and James Brunette receive honors for Gold and Eagle Scout achievements. Katherine led a conservation project at Whittier Narrows Nature Center, planting natives and mulching. Michael completed 24 merit badges and led Campout and Camporee roles, plus Philmont trek. Peter refurbished rooms at Villa Esperanza in Pasadena, earning 21 merit badges. James led Philmont crew and aided Marino High School projects, also earning 21 merit badges.

New Police Detective Leads Neighborhood Watch in San Marino
San Marino Police Department assigns Officer Harry Terrill to the Detective Bureau in May to lead Neighborhood Watch. He will work with Detective Danny Gutierrez, S.R.O. Patrice Garcia, under Sergeant Robert Cervantes. Terrill is a four year veteran, Brigham Young University graduate, now pursuing a masters at Woodbury University, and serves on the San Gabriel Valley Asian Gang Task Force as CPR instructor. He will compile block captain lists and recruit new volunteers as part of reestablishing Neighborhood Watch, with a meeting noted on page A-3.

The San Marino Tribune hosts the J P Blecksmith Leadership Foundation 5K Run and Walk at 8:00 a.m. July 4 2008 starting at The Tribune headquarters. Lacy Park Opens Tomorrow With Fireworks Display

Gunnell Hogeboom Defend City Club Championships
More than seventy two golfers competed at San Gabriel Country Club for the City Club Golf Tournament held on June 23. Defending champions Jean Gunnell and Bob Hogeboom again claimed titles as attendees praised camaraderie and cuisine. Hogeboom won men’s low gross with 79 and Gunnell topped women’s with 90. Harold Young and Matt Douglas were runners up in the men’s low gross.
