San Marino High School 1998 graduate Steven Wu claimed the NFL national title in Foreign Extemporaneous Speaking. Four SMHS students qualified for the national meet in St Louis Missouri June 15 to 20, with Wu earning $1000 prize and a $500 bonus from each DACORE Board member.

Class To Lead 36th Annual July 4th Parade

Titan Band Heads to Calgary Stampede
The San Marino High School Titan Marching Band will participate in the Calgary Stampede in Alberta, Canada, July 28. Sixty-five students, 11 adult chaperones, and band director Ben Ubovich will trek 2,000 miles. The trip grew from a meeting after the Stampede Band played at the Rose Parade two years earlier. New Fire Engine Arrives after Cross Country Trek
San Marino Fire Department welcomes No 91 a state of the art engine from Pierce Manufacturing Wisconsin after a 2000 mile journey by driver Joe LaRocca. Chief John Penido calls the 300000 dollar 470 horsepower diesel unit the newest most modern engine with a 1500 GPM pump and 67 mph top speed. The retired No 791 served 35 years since 1963 and the department hopes the new machine will last about 20 years with ongoing care.
