Community Church Mark Fifth Anniversary With Gala
About 250 members and friends of San Marino Community Church gathered in Huntington School gym last Saturday for the fifth anniversary celebration featuring dinner and a program. Dr. P. Martin Baker welcomed the audience, Ernest Purdum presided, gifts to the church were announced, Virginia Trevitt will become youth director, Florence Chaffee will lead a lecture series, and Ray mond Hill organized the musical portion with solos from Mrs Hammack Jr and William Davis.

Colonel Taylor Awarded the Legion of Merit
Lt. Col. R. R. Taylor of San Marino received the Legion of Merit at Ninth Service Command HQ Fort Douglas Utah on January 21. Maj. Gen. William E. Shedd presented the award citing his role as executive officer of the prisoner of war division and his program using POW labor across eight western states. Taylor entered the Army in 1942, is on leave from Bullock's, and plans to return to his San Marino home with wife Mary Bennis Taylor.

Church Group Sponsors Work Project to Aid War Victims
St. Edmund's Episcopal Church sponsors a community work project directed by Miss Lilian Daniell to produce clothing and hospital supplies for war-devastated Europe and Pacific areas. Sessions run at Daniell's home on specified Fridays and Tuesdays. volunteers should bring sewing items and leave discarded linens and old clothes for reform. Finished products will be sent by church missionaries to Pacific regions and Europe via distribution centers.

Death of C H Hermann Leaves Southland Community In Mourning
Funeral services were held at St Philip's Church Pasadena for Charles H Hermann of 975 Oak Grove Ave a prominent Southlander who died after a five month illness in a Los Angeles hospital. Born in Austria in 1871 he came to the United States as a child and built wide business civic and sports roots in Chicago California and the Midwest. He was a friend of Charles Comiskey and a founder of the Bob O Link Country Club among others Interment was at Calvary Cemetery He is survived by his wife Hazel G and two sons J Carter and Charles H Jr.

Edwin Joseph O'Connor died suddenly at his home on Friday January 25. Funeral services were held January 30 at 2 p.m. at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. He is survived by his widow Margaret Rafferty O'Connor, mother Mary Saxon O'Connor, four sisters Marion Hofmann Virginia Hernandez Dorothy Amato Gertrude Philip, and a brother Jerome O'Connor, all of Brooklyn. He had lived in California six years, with about 20 years in San Marino.
