W. L. Seay resigns as president and trustee of the San Marino Board of Education after five years on the panel and two as president. Ernest R. Purdum is appointed to fill the vacancy, is a San Marino resident, lawyer, deputy county counsel, and has one child.
At Huntington school in San Marino on Friday afternoon a Legion Post awards ceremony honored eighth grade student Harrison McDonald in the boys division and Margaret Coffman in the girls division with certificates and bronze plaques presented by Col. Edward P. Bailey. The awards recognize character, conduct, truth, duty, and leadership, along with courage, scholarship, and service criteria.
The Henry E Huntington Parent-Teacher Association holds its regular February meeting Tuesday at 2 30 in the Huntington school auditorium. Miss Mildred Moffett presents a visual education demonstration from San Marino schools joined by singer Mary Wilkes Last. A Washington commemoration by 5 A and 6 B students is planned. Father’s night dinner is set for March 1 in the school cafeteria written and organized by fathers. dinner tickets will be sold at the February meeting.
Next Tuesday evening Troop No 2 San Marino Boy Scouts travel to the Pony Express Museum in Kewer Canyon for education and inspiration. The outing promises exposure to a rare collection of early souvenirs and curios.
Two building permits issued by city inspector George H Crowshey authorize a 7 room two story residence at 2758 Doresta road for H B Henry Glendale with contractor John Engman Los Angeles and architect E W Sanke y Sierra Madre at a cost of 7500 dollars. The second permit approves a 10 room house at 605 Winston avenue for Alexander Robert Los Angeles with contractor Merril A Wood and the architects.
Mrs Edward P Cheverton president of the South Pasadena San Marino council convened at her home with association presidents to back an emergency food drive. Mrs P M Grant tasks teachers to urge children to collect staples and canned goods Thursday Friday and Monday to aid families in dire need until relief can issue scrip. Immediate action is requested.
Announcement of Mrs. W. W. Nash candidacy for Congress. Resident of 1500 Old Mill Road, she supports Hoover and has 14 years in a law office, plus legal and business training. Active in American Legion Auxiliary, president of the local unit, and prominent in the San Marino Sweepstakes Float in the Tournament of Roses.
Gardener James Tapia was fatally struck near employer R H Henderson’s home as he stepped from behind a Pacific Electric car on Huntington drive at Virginia road. Driver Hamar Hairoto of Sierra Madre was not held. An inquest occurred at Dubois Funeral Home in San Gabriel.
