Anderson Indicted On Molestation Charges

Southwestern Interact Club Pitches In At Southwestern Academy
Twenty three student members of the Southwestern Interact Club at Southwestern Academy in San Marino have raised funds this school year to buy nine shelter boxes. Under Interact president Melissa Metzelaar they made holiday gift bags from plastic decorations to fund the effort. The shelter boxes, assembled by an international charity, provide food shelter and portable water purification for families up to ten. Boxes are stored in airports worldwide and distributed by Rotarians to victims of natural disasters. INTERACT page A-7

Gillan Awarded 4.5 Million Judgment Against City
A Los Angeles County jury awarded San Marino High School girls varsity coach Pat Gillan 4.5 million in compensatory and punitive damages after seven days of deliberation in his suit against the City of San Marino the San Marino Police Department and former detectives Chris Petersen and Gene Street. The panel allocated 1.937 million for past suffering and reputational injuries and 2.516 million for future damages, with Street and Petersen hit with minor punitive awards. The judge ruled the department lacked probable cause in December 2001. Gillan, in his sixth season as head coach, voiced mixed emotions while noting vindication after a 37 month ordeal.

City of Hope Wins $11.5 Million NCI Grant
City of Hope received a five year Specialized Program of Research Excellence grant totaling 11.5 million dollars from the National Cancer Institute for translational research on Hodgkin's and non Hodgkin's lymphoma. San Marino doctors Stephen J. Forman and Andrew Raubitschek were instrumental, with Forman as principal investigator and Raubitschek as co principal investigator. City of Hope will conduct research as a premier biomedical center in cancer treatment.
