Junior and senior parents meet at San Marino High School Tuesday January 31 for Grad Night sign ups graduation information and discussions. At 6 45 p.m. junior parents sign up for Grad Night jobs in the auditorium orchestra pit while senior parents gather in the foyer for committee sign ups. At 7 30 p.m. both groups convene in the auditorium for further planning.
The San Marino Public Library offers a film and slide program on Thursday February 2 in the library auditorium titled Of Time Tombs and Treasures. The show, with 56 objects, features J Carter Brown and Thomas Hoving explaining the artifacts’ historical significance and beauty.
A Red Cross Blood Program blood drive will be at the San Marino Womans Club, 1800 Huntington Drive, on Tuesday January 31 from 2 pm to 6 30 pm. The drive serves 240 hospitals in Los Angeles and Orange counties and seeks 1600 pints of blood.
In the Rio Hondo League after two weeks San Marino Titans La Canada Spartans and Temple City sit 3-1 atop the standings. The Spartans upset San Marino 68-44, San Marino then beat Bell Gardens 46, while La Canada lost to Duarte. A crowded chase for sole possession of first continues.
The PTSA sponsors a three week SAT Verbal Workshop for SMHS students from February 14 through March 2. Two hour sessions run Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6:30 to 8:30 PM with a $10 fee plus two required workbooks. Nancy Hunt supervises the course, which aims to teach strategies for all five verbal question types and bolster test confidence without promising score increases.
Huntington Library chief engineer Charles Harkins, in service 14 years, was arrested by San Marino Police on grand theft charges involving several rare documents stolen from the Huntington Library. Clem Renouf president elect of Rotary International is the honored guest at the Rotary Club of San Marino luncheon today. He arranges the visit to recognize strong support to the Rotary Foundation by the organization and its members.
At the Old Virginia Inn Mr and Mrs Larry Day hosted a banquet marking the close of the 1977 San Marino High School Girls Varsity Volleyball season. The Titans finished 7-3 in Rio Hondo League play and 13-5 overall, with Santa Clara beating them 12-15 13-15 in Ventura ending playoff hopes. Coach Barbara Kirk earned Coach of the Year honors. Martha Becker and Joan McGoldrick earned first team All Rio Hondo. Connie Yale and Carolyn Paine earned second team. Martha Becker received the San Marino City Club MVP trophy.
