Crowell Public Library Dedication Set for Saturday
City officials and residents will celebrate the grand opening of the new Crowell Public Library on Saturday January 26 led by Mayor Matthew Lin. The 29 000 square foot facility cost 17 million dollars and honors Suzanne and the late Donald Crowell who donated 4 million. Festivities begin with a 9 15 a.m lion dance by Chinese School students followed by proclamations and speeches from city and regional figures.

Local Student Hosts Earth Walk in San Marino Saturday
Hayley Carter a San Marino seventh grader leads the first San Marino Community Earth Walk at Lacy Park this Saturday January 26 at 9 00 a m. The event asks residents to join wearing green with a five dollar fee and four dollar extra for non residents donations welcomed. Everyone counts in protecting the environment.

San Marino High School junior Margaret Lazzarini joined 37 other young women in Mount Holyoke College Take the Lead program, a leadership weekend urging mentoring, diversity, and social activism. Nominees totaled 637. three $500 prizes will reward completed action projects. Lazzarini planned teen elder tech-education ties, with one-on-one mentoring and six months of continued guidance.

Newport Community Center Tour Lights Local Collaboration
An eight person caravan of city and school district officials toured the Newport Coast community center. Newport Coast center opened less than a year with an $8.5 million construction cost and a $10.4 million program budget. San Marino explores a similar shared facility near Crowell Library and Huntington Middle School to support recreation and school needs.

Man in EMI jumpsuit posing as inspector robs San Marino shops
A man in a dark EMI jumpsuit with a thick accent entered Mission Street businesses last week posing as a fire inspection official and attempted to extort a $25 service fee. Fire Marshal Jim Anderson described the suspect as white, dark complected with dark hair and a heavy accent. The incident followed a claimed annual inspection by the San Marino Fire Department.
