Lt. Nicholas Castruccio son of Mr and Mrs Constantine Castruccio of Afton road commands outstanding catapult and arresting gear crew aboard the USS Valley Forge in February during springboard training. The carrier, part of the Atlantic Fleet, will join about 100 ships in Operation Springboard in the Caribbean. The crew earned an outstanding mark for a November ship inspection in Cuban waters, launching twin engine SF Marine hunter planes at high speed. The officer, a Loyola High School Los Angeles graduate, entered the Naval Academy at Annapolis, became Ensign in June, earned wings and naval aviator designation in December 1949 at Pensacola, married to A Arleth of El Monte.

Gifted Students to Join San Marino School Project
San Marino educators will launch a spring pilot at Huntington School to challenge gifted upper elementary students with a weekly two hour session for about 30 pupils. The program runs alongside regular work, uses college instructors for courses in economics sciences languages and math applications, and may include students with perfect A grades and high IQ scores. Results will be evaluated before expanding to other district schools.

The second annual Senior Showboat at San Marino High School will be held in Elmer C. Neher auditorium on Saturday January 26.
