San Marino City Schools release new spring bus routes with revised times for Valentine Huntington and Huntington campuses. Elmer C Neher announces adjustments to routes leaving earlier in fall term shifting to later departures in spring. some stops and paths updated to maintain access for students.
Citizens clash over debris on parkways and a proposed variance for a Parking Shopping Bag lot on Huntington Drive. Residents urged stricter use and a distant lot, while others argued the current site fits the area and deed restrictions. Authorities promised immediate action to curb litter and misuse by workers.
The San Marino Men's Republican Club planned an officers election for February with dates to be announced. A San Marino City Club debate featured Bruce Regan and Richard Richards on universal military training, following a chorus and community singing by local groups.
San Marino City Council halted hearings on a San Marino Foundation variance after the foundation withdrew its petition. Winston Avenue residents welcomed the move with praise for placing community welfare above private interests and thanked the foundation.
Thomas Boyd Armistead named associate director of the Fathers Night Show in San Marino to run March 15 20. Vera Wickert designated as dance director bringing years of chaperone and routine duties from Huntington School and prior stage work. Rehearsals began Tuesday as a full cast and roles are being assigned with jobs still open for new participants.
The San Marino Boy Scout Court of Honor will honor three Eagle Scouts Jerry Harrington John Mackenzie and James Thomas at Huntington School auditorium Monday evening January 26. Troop 3 sponsors the event with a program featuring Eagle Scouts Bob Ludenkens and George Steed of Alhambra who attended the World Scout Jamboree in France last summer.
On Tuesday January 20 Security-First National Bank celebrated the 40th year of association by Harry H Chase. At the same day organization meeting the board elected him to a vice presidency. Chase previously served as assistant secretary at the Fifth and Spring branch and lives with his family at 1916 St Albans Road.
The San Marino Board of Trustees schedules a special meeting next Tuesday at 8 PM in the school office to choose the name for the new elementary school at 2701 Huntington Drive. Attendees will include local organization leaders and civic figures from the San Marino area.
Leo Hepp was installed president of the San Marino Kiwanis Club along with officers and directors at an installation meeting at Old Virginia Sout Pasadena. Judge Cloyd Snyder and visiting Kiwanis members attended. State Senator Jack B. Tenney spoke on subversive activities in California.
A councilman pressed the city attorney for a verbal opinion on an animal ordinance update. He proposed charging property owners who keep chickens pigeons or rabbits in backyards and potentially licensing these exceptions. Licenses could fund yard inspections to ensure cleanliness and compliance with health and neighbor considerations.
City Council on January 15 unanimously adopted a resolution to task the City Engineer with plans for street lighting in the Gainsborough drive area. The projected installation costs about $325000 with assessments around $107 per residential lot, or roughly 3.5 percent of lot value, payable over ten years.
City council gave second reading to ordinance 441 to cut speeds citywide. After publication and posting of affected areas the regulation becomes effective next week. Rose avenue posted. 45 mph on Sierra Madre boulevard and Huntington drive. Lombardy road San Marino Avenue Monterey road also impacted.
