At a recent meeting the San Marino City Council clarified side yard definitions and approved a tennis court lighting ordinance. The session also discussed hiring a medical director for the city paramedic unit and heard about the essential projects in the revitalization plan.
A mid January spree of car window smashings hits five vehicles on Palomar Road Wallingford Road Winston Avenue and Reincke Road with unknown suspects and objects. A Rosemead resident on Wallingford Road reports a smashed rear window. A Huntley Circle Ford suffers multiple window breaks. A Ford on Winston Avenue also targeted while a Reincke Road car is hit. A jewelry theft from a Darby Road home occurs as residents are away through a northwest window. A Sierra Madre Boulevard residence loses electronics valued at about $2,000 after a rear sliding door is used to gain entry. Porcelain figurines and stereo gear are damaged and scattered. suspects remain unidentified.
George Brandow was named an Honorary Member of the American Society of Civil Engineers during the ASCE convention in St. Louis. He started with the Los Angeles County Building Department, led Brandow Johnston Associates, and contributed to thousands of buildings noted for earthquake resistant design.
Dana V. Angeloff, president of The Angeloff Company, is named a director of Bobby McGee's U S A Incorporated. Angeloff also chairs several companies and serves as a USC trustee and Jonathan Club member as Bobby McGee's celebrates its tenth anniversary with outlets in Arizona California Texas Hawaii and Colorado.
A male suspect entered the San Marino Bank of America at 424 Hunt Huntington Drive around 10 am on Thursday January 14. He approached the teller with a note alleging a robbery and indicated a bulge under his T-shirt, took about $1007 in mixed bills, and fled out the rear. no weapon was seen and an alarm was activated. The man is described as about six feet tall, 180 pounds, moustache, straight brown hair, wearing a white T shirt and army fatigues.
Four San Marino youths from Troop 358 were named Eagle Scouts at a Court of Honor. The ceremony featured remarks by former mayor Maurice Jones. The quartet includes Eric New, Taylor Pillsbury, Karl Renney, and Darren Seidel, with extensive service projects and Scout activities noted, including Jamborees and leadership roles.
The San Marino Chamber of Commerce will meet Monday January 25 at noon in city hall council chambers. Newly elected directors will be introduced and officers for 1982 will be elected. For details call the chamber office. 286-?22
Students in the San Marino Unified School District will take finals Tuesday January 26 through Thursday January 3. Each day’s final is scheduled for 12:15 PM local time. The Friday after the first semester ends, January 20, is a non attendance day for all district students.
Jaime Jarrin credits reading and broad knowledge for success as the Dodgers Spanish voice. The longtime sportscaster, born in Quito, grew with LA teams, spans radio TV duties, and mentors other announcers while praising Vin Scully and his Dodgers family.
Helen Hauser, renowned Arcadia and San Marino real estate broker and community leader, died last week. Born in Los Angeles January 28, 1920, she built Helen Hauser Inc Realtors Gallery of Homes with offices in Arcadia and San Marino and served in multiple real estate and civic roles. Survived by husband James, daughter Catherine Wood, son Charles Hauser, mother Helen Knapp, brother Donald Knapp, and three granddaughters. Services held January 19 at St. Rita Catholic Church, Sierra Madre.
