MWD Official Bert Becker Named to Local Investment Task Force
Bert W. Becker, acting director of finance for the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California, was named to the Local Government Investment Task Force by State Treasurer Matt Fong. Becker leads the public sector stake for all about 1100 California special districts, amid Orange County bankruptcy fallout and a state review of investment practices. Becker joined MWD in 1986 and has served as assistant director of finance before his current post since October 1994. He holds a finance degree from Cal State LA and an MBA from USC. he and his wife Judy live in La Mirada with their three children.

Los Angeles County Supervisor Mike Antonovich formally urged District Attorney Gil Garcetti to drop plea bargains for forging legal resident documents. He cited a Norwalk courtroom deal that let two forgers receive six months in county jail and three years of probation, instead of the five year state prison term and fines required by Proposition 187.
