Huntington Library lecturer Dr. Edwin Carpenter discusses headstone history and early cemeteries for San Marino Historical Society. Feb 4 at 2 p.m. at Church of Our Saviour San Gabriel. tour of San Gabriel Cemetery to view Wilson and Patton family graves. Dr. Carpenter, WWII gravesite registrar, wrote Early Cemeteries of the City of Los Angeles and is working on a county volumes project. San Marino Nonagenarian Mamie Breitkreutz Spotlighted
Mamie Breitkreutz, 90 plus, honored by USC Half Century Club as the sole surviving alum from class of 1906. She built and still lives in her Wilson Avenue home since 1909, with husband Emil a bronze medalist in the 1904 Olympic 880 yard run. Her son Ed died last summer and benefitted the Blue Ribbon Committee drive along with Mamie’s other son Chandler, who remains in town with his wife Dora. Meanwhile 14-year-old Jack McRae attends San Marino High and Cal State L.A. classes, chasing biology and psychiatry ambitions with a heavy course load and musical hobbies.
