School Board to Place Parcel Tax Renewal Before Local Voters
The San Marino School Board will ask voters by mail ballot in March to renew a 22 year old parcel tax yielding about $1.4 million annually. If renewed, Measure A would cost roughly $330 per parcel for six years and needs two thirds plus one to pass. A prior 2009 parcel tax adds $795 per parcel with cost of living increases, and funds must stay within the district. The district notes Proposition 30 brings no new money for schools, only prevents further cuts.

Four San Marino Girls Named Emerging Leaders
Four San Marino Girl Scouts were named Emerging Leaders by Girl Scouts of Greater Los Angeles for outstanding service and leadership. Elise Burton of Marlborough School, Michelle Floyd of San Marino High School, Natalie Spaulding and Sonia Shenoi received recognition amid the organization’s 100th anniversary celebrations. Burton participates in Violet Key and varsity golf, with multiple awards and leadership roles. Huntington expansion plan appeal moves to San Marino City Council
The San Marino Planning Commission’s conditional approval of the Huntington Library project facing a $60 million expansion was appealed by a resident through his attorney. A public hearing is set for February 4 at 7 00 p m in the Crowell Public Library Barth Community Room. The appeal follows votes at the latest council meeting. The project includes rebuilding or expanding the Overseers Room Garden Court and more with a daily vehicle cap proposal shifting from 4200 visitors to 2950 vehicles, plus limited non school buses.
