Thieves Target Holiday Locale In Spate Of Thefts
Police report a two week dip in overall crime while lawn equipment thefts rise. Victims include Yukio Ishida on Oak Grove Avenue and John Barrios on Canterbury Road. Losses hover around 600 dollars. A suspect, Harold Hopper of Inglewood, forged checks carrying 29 52863 dollars. Also reported: thefts of building supplies, three autos, currency, and camera gear. One purse snatching on Monterey Park left Grace Lu shaken but unharmed. Jeanette Thurst on Plymouth Road died of natural causes.

San Marino School Board Seeks Roofing Fixes and Funding
The San Marino Board of Education held a special meeting at 8 a.m. December 29 featuring a district-wide roof inspection. Roofing problems were noted with Huntington and Valentine the most severe. The board prepared to consult Sacramento's Synna Reynolds on hardship funds for roofing repairs and a broader maintenance package using state funds. Additional topics included improving meeting structure, increasing community communication, and continuing the community newsletter and local cable TV programs. A January 12 regular meeting will include a report from the Forward Fiscal Planning Committee.
