City crews dismantled the Little Christmas Church on Monday after years as a holiday symbol. The city stores the sections and exquisite windows on city property while plans shift to city stewardship. Donors and residents support a Save Our Little Christmas Church Fund aimed at a permanent model for the city’s heritage.
Plans for the South Pasadena YMCA Finish the Jus campaign move forward with key appointments by Board Chairman Peter S Arnold Campbell Stewart. Stewart will marshal about 15 volunteers to raise seventy thousand dollars toward the goal. A public drive stage will start January 2 with a workforce over 200 split into two divisions led by William Poindexter and Herbert Stark MD.
A metal statue valued at about 350 dollars was reported stolen from Mrs. Charles A. Strub’s Oak Grove Avenue property. San Marino police say the 150 pound Italian made figure of a boy with a fish was taken from a fish pond on the Strub patio last Wednesday morning.

Funeral services were held for Jacki Davenport 25 of San Marino at Rose Hills Memorial Chapel. She died in a skiing accident near Mammoth on January 2 while on vacation. Survivors include her mother Mrs Elodie Davenport and sister Vicki Davenport with memorials suggested to the Olympic Ski Fund.
San Marino residents mourn senior minister Dr Ernest A Yarrow who died Sunday night at Huntington Memorial Hospital He was installed as senior minister of the Oneonta congregation and the ordination of David B Boyer proceeded Dr Yarrow began his ministry in 1964 after serving in several states and was survived by his wife Betty two married daughters Susan and Nancy a daughter Linda a son Peter and other relatives The memorial fund is being established at the church in his honor
Carl Alan Williams Sr. died Thursday December 31 at his son Carl Alan Williams Jr. home on Rubio Drive. He was 67. The Williams family from Cleveland Ohio had spent the prior three weeks with the younger Williamses in San Marino.
Pasadena resident Arita Hiraku, 52, escaped injury when a runaway vehicle, reportedly not hand‑braked, struck his parked station wagon on Old Mill Road just north of Sherwood Road last Thursday afternoon. Arito heard a shout of look out before leaping to the curb. The driverless car event is under police review.
The event sponsored by US Track and Field News Magazine reported the 14th fastest time in the nation. Mike Ryan of Wilcox High School led the top time at 8:57.7 with Jim Olsen of Kirkwood, Missouri second and Jim Ryan of Wichita, Kansas third. Hughes posted 9:32.2 the fastest Southern California effort. Proviso West of Hillside Illinois won the team title with 48 05 9 for five runners, setting a national record. Wilcox and Carlmont High School also placed high with two Southern California schools finishing in the top twenty.
The January 13 city council agenda includes an open hearing on adopting the new electrical code and discussion of a Mutual Assistance Agreement with San Marino and County Fire departments for major fires. Also planned is appointing a representative to the Metropolitan Water District board to replace Howard A. Miller whose term expired December 14.
The San Marino Titans travel to Temple City for the Temple City Invitational and meet La Canada in the opener at 4 30 PM. The Rio Hondo League teams compete in the event before league play resumes with South Pasadena on January 13.
Students at Huntington School will view an anti smoking program presented by the Huntington School PTA in cooperation with the West San Gabriel Valley Branch of the Los Angeles County Heart Association. The program features the film Too Tough to Care, talks by teachers, and a tour of the Heartmobile.
San Marino High School prepares for its third annual freshman versus sophomore rivalry competition this weekend with students, parents, and faculty expected to attend on Friday and Saturday January 8 and 9.
Public installation ceremonies will be held by the San Marino Chapter Order of DeMolay on Friday January 15 at 8 p.m. in the San Marino Masonic Temple. John Cunningham will be installed master councilor succeeding Don Poyas.

On January 7 Bennett College is discussed at 9 30 a.m. and Lake Erie College Painesville Ohio at 10 30 a.m. On January 11 Lewis and Clark Portland Oregon is the subject and on January 14 Cal Western San Diego is discussed at 8 30 a.m.
San Marino police have charged 18 year old UCLA student William Brainerd of Kenilworth avenue with malicious mischief over suspected lawn damage across 30 incidents during the holidays. Brainerd allegedly drove a Volkswagen over lawns, identified after following his car to obtain a license number. Maximum penalty is six months in jail or a $500 fine.
The first Board of Education session of the year is set for January 12. Superintendent Walter Dingus says policy discussion and the 1967 calendar announcement may be on the agenda. The Pasadena District invites San Marino to join the Pasadena Junior College District and a joint meeting with Pasadena Arcadia and South Pasadena boards is planned for January 13.
A nine year old San Marino girl, Roxanne G Hall, sustained elbow and leg injuries after being struck by an automobile driven by Addie A Morrison, 57, of Duarte at the Huntington Cambridge road crosswalk. Morrison reportedly ran the red signal after stopping for two cars. The girl was taken to San Gabriel Community Hospital for treatment.
The county Republican committee voted Monday at County Hall to rename Leetham as chairman a position he has held since 1931 The meeting also seated most new committeemen despite County Registrar Benjamin S Hite reporting 39 had not met election law or received certificates Of election Rousselot John Birch Society official was among those failing to disclose expenses or meet filing deadlines The group backed a canvass based on June primary results and pledged tolerance in intra party affairs.
